Keep on to them or write to jeremy hicks instead ,both quarters painted fully and new roof rail fitted and entire roof also ,west london audi took job on ,john hargey dealt with it and was a pleasure to be dealt with so well .

Has nothing to do with service history by the way .

Thanks to this thread and forum I have just had my car approved for repair having initially been refused over 20 months ago. I have rust bubbling up on the roof rails and underneath the lower door trims. Previously in 2009, my claim was rejected by Audi UK because in their opinion, 'of the length of time the defect has been apparent without it being reported to Audi'. We all know this is a fob off and despite numerous phone calls to Audi UK I got nowhere. After recently emailing Richard Starkey, as this thread suggests, I had a call from Chelsey Allot at Audi UK, who appears to be handling most of these cases on Richard's behalf. She has been excellent and thanks to her and this forum, I have finally had a positive result. At this stage they have only offered to pay 70% of the costs and have asked for an estimate for the repairs. Again we know this is another tact used to redeem some of the costs and I will be insisting that Audi pay 100% and nothing less. It is however, a far better result than I had had previously and I am confident having spoken with Audi UK this morning that Audi will agree to pay the full amount.
I would certainly recommend anyone with this issue send a polite email to Richard Starkey in the first instance and follow it up if no reply. In my experience, being armed with the details of the Audi perforation warranty (available from a link earlier in this thread) along with evidence of many other cases (again from this thread) has given me the upper hand when dealing with Audi having been fobbed off previously.

Top marks to this forum and to Richard Starkey, for taking the time to deal with a simple yet annoying issue.

I've just been to Coventry Audi, who sent me to their bodyshop (Listers), the guy seemed to know his stuff, sounded like they have done a lot of them to be honest, although he did say its not covered under warranty but Audi will pay 70% as a good will gesture. I think I will fire an email off to Richard in a moment!

Hi Guys, i also have the rust problem and they are offering 70% tops to cover the cost of the damage, think it worked out that i would have to spend around 350 myself to get this problem fixed. I have called Audi UK, and they are unwilling to budge. Does anyone have anymore suggestions in tackling this very annoying problem. Such a shame for a car which should be so well built to have some a common problem. Can anyone suggest what i could do next? Maybe some cold hard facts that i could suggest?
Thanks guys, doing a sterling job

sleeksx- I had the same offer from Audi UK and was told I would have to pay the 30%. In the end I managed to get the work done FOC but I agree it is frustrating. If you stay polite but firm with both Audi UK and the dealership then they might offer to pay the remaining 30% as a goodwill gesture. Good luck

This reject reason most/some dealers are giving on the grounds that the car has no dealer history is because part of that process is to inspect the bodywork and in theory it would have been picked up earlier. Personally unless I see for my own eyes exactly how the repair is done I suspect most of these 'repaired' cars will require more work in the future ! Ask Audi on details of the repair process and I will eat my hat if they actually do a fraction of what they say they will do. I know .
I couldn't believe the huge c*ck and bull story I was given. In theory from what I was told a job to repair the roof rail would have cost in the region of a thousand and definitely cause a lot more issues in the future taking a lot of things apart and putting them back again.

Steve, try emailing Chelsey Allot as well, here you go: chelsey.allot@audi.co.uk
It does take a while and by the look of it she's pretty busy dealing with a load of unhappy A3 owners but I got mine done free (eventually) after having previously been refused. I guess they hope most customers will not push the issue as this must be costing them a fortune but you have a valid claim as your 12 year warranty is still valid.....just!

Just picked my car up from Taunton Audi this morning, lovely job and coil packs changed without even asking, just waiting to hear from Audi UK to see if they will pay the other 30%, someone called Chelsey e-mailed me to ask for details so she could set up a file, so here's hoping.

I took mine in to Aberdeen Audi's bodyshop (John Clark) this morning to have the bubbling at the bottom of the driver's door evaluated.
I also asked about the patch of rust on the corner of the tailgate.

Door - the guy didn't say much but took a reading of the paint thickness and some photos and said he'd send it off on Monday.
Tailgate - he said not a chance this would be covered by the warranty as it had flaked and the warranty for flaking is 3 years (?), also that it looked like the paint had been knocked. He said he'd give me a quote to sort it but i'd be expensive!

So... i'll have to wait and see what happens.

    HOME TOWN - Cheltenham
YEAR AND VEHICLE MODEL - 2001 AMK S3
DETAILS OF RUST FOUND - Bubbles to passenger side roof rails, 5 seperate spots of bubbling
TIME TO WARRANTY CLAIM FROM FIRST NOTICING IT - 9 months
HOW LONG YOU HAD OWNED THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME - 9months
DEALER APPROACHED - Parklands Audi Gloucester
OUTCOME (APPROVED, REFUSED) - Refused 12 year warranty
REASON FOR REFUSAL - Im told by Katherine that it is a paint defect which has a 3 year warranty, they offered 70% factory discount, I said it was a body work problem
not a paint problem. She also added she would not give me a dealer jesture of good will as I'd never had my car serviced by them.
    DATE OF CLAIM - 22.02.11

Fairly dissapointed by the level of service received, the woman I dealt with originally didnt have a memory card in her camera so took 2-3 photos, when theres 5 spots of bubbling paint and getting worse and I was told she would be sending them off. Whilst waiting for this woman I was made to feel rather uncomfortable with some funny looks.

Andy101 where did you get refused from, Parklands?

Dane - yes Parklands originally referred it to Audi Customer services in 2009, who then refused it on the grounds of the time taken to report the defect. After reading this thread recently I emailed Richard Starkey, who then passed it to Chelsey Allot. She's been great, very proactive, and I've since had the work done by Blade in the last few weeks. Audi Customer services paid 85% and Parklands 15%. I'd try an email to Richard Starkey.

    Cheers Andy,

Ive sent Richard Starkey an email earlier today, just waiting on a response at the mo. I dont think Parklands have covered themselves in glory on this ocassion - very basic, dare I say incomplete documentation of my problem. I'll report back on what Mr Starkey says.

    Hi Guys

Recently took my B6 A4 into Harrogate Audi, as both fron wings are showing sign of rust/bubbling. the drivers one even has paint falling off!

Took 11 days to get a response after the nice block at Harrogate agreed it looked bad, took all paint readings etc and submitted.

Audis reply - reject one side as the photo is not clear (wtf??) and reject other side as it's not a manufacturers defect!!

They guy at Harrogate said even he is baffled as he has known other A4's go through no problem. He suggests retaking photos and resubmitting.

If it gets rejected again, what can i argue to get them to cover it?? can I take them to the small claims court or anything? so pissed off right now.

jo33y - I'd arm myself with a copy of the corrosion warranty (link earlier on this thread) and email Richard Starkey. If your A4 has original paintwork and has never been repaired and meets the criteria on the warranty then Audi don't have a leg to stand on. Get Harrogate Audi to take some better photos and get them on the case. I found once Chelsey Allot was involved, things just moved much faster and I got several phonecalls each week with an update. It will take time to get them to act but keep on it bud!

Had my roof done a week ago, they told me it was garanteed for twelve months at Taunton Audi, it may just depend on the dealer you go to though, but I recon you need to comlain to Audi UK, if the job was done right the rust should never return.

Your thoughts on the below chaps?

    Hello Mr Nutting

Thank you for your email please accept my apologies in the time it has taken to respond.

After investigating your case with Catherine at Parklands Audi , the initial contribution of 70% will be Final. The reason for this is due to the fact that the repair needed is a paintwork defect rather than corrosion, as you are aware paintwork warranty is only for a period of three years which has now expired. However we are offering 70% to assist our loyal customer's with the repair cost.

I appreciate this may not be the response you was hoping for.

    Kind regards

My 2000 A3 is going in to be assessed by Aberdeen Audi at lunch time today. I'm not expecting a satisfactory result though as Aberdeen Audi think that they are untouchable due to the sheer volume of Audi's that are on the road in this area.
A colleague of mine went to buy an A1 recently and tried to haggle a bit with the salesman who promptly told her that there was no deal to be had as Audi's sell themselves in Aberdeen and he didn't have to sell to her as someone else would snap it up within hours. If you see the number of Audi's on the road up here, I would tend to agree with the salesman.

shes just fobbed me off, and doesn't seem to be budging.

I asked what method was used to distinguish my problem as a paintwork issue and not a body work issue.
Why it was that people who seem to have the same problem as me, who have uploaded photographs of issues that looks exactly the same as my problem, have had the issues sorted 100 % under warranty.
And how exactly they made this desicion based on a few photographs.

she just gave me some speil and didnt actually answer my questions.

No one of any expertise in paintwork and/or bodywork has physically inspected my car.

I think I'll ask what it is that is making the paint bubble, If I get it's because of oxygen being given off due to the formation of Iron oxide I may loose my patience lol.

Just back from getting the corrosion assesed. Guy said that he would get back to me within a week but advised that the bubbling on the rear quarters probably wouldn't get done under warranty as it was zinc inclusion. WTF! Zinc inclusion occurs if the zinc is not washed off properly prior to the galvanizing process so to me this is obviously a warranty issue. Looks like I'm going to have a bit of a fight on my hands with this particular dealership.

Yeah, because that's not rust at all. Not even a little bit..... lol.

Yeah thats a little bit more clear cut than mine! Can't you see the paints just changed colour and made it look like rust???

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the response on this and if they agree that this is not a paint defect (when they claim it is!) then how do I know that they have not mal-diagnosed the remainder of the claim?

rust on front wings on 2003 A4 B6

I have recently taken mine to Dundee Audi who have refused a claim under paint defect. Both front wings have started to rust, one badly. I have emailed Richard Starkey and Chelsey Allot for a full explanation. I doubt it will make much difference but I feel obliged to warn other before buying an Audi that they are rust prone. The last car I had this bad was a 1976 Ford Escort, was which 8 year old also.

I bought an Audi as I thought they didnt rust, how wrong was I?

Is there not an issue on these models with the inner wing rubbing and taking the paint/galvanising off?

I am thinking of doing a Facebook campaign, only quoting what Audi have written
