Petrol Light

Hi, ive got a 1.6 a3 its a 2002, now the problem is when the tank goes little under half, the petrol light comes on :S

And when you turn the ignition off fully and take the key out, everything turns off but the petrol gueage stops at middle of red reserve bars and after 2 seconds it drops completly and goes to wheere it should when the engine is off.

any helps appricheated, have a good feeling its a sensor fault?

Sounds like its the sender, or a faulty gauge, see if you can get the car on vagcom, it should indicate if there is a fault anywhere ok.

i have a 1.6 year 2000 and its doing something very similar, i get the petrol warning on quarter tank.

it's going to audi for a service next week so will ask them what exactly the problem is..

the stealers have told me that the whole instrument cluster needs replacing to fix this!!! wtf

No mate, go to a local specialist and get it checked out, rather than paying £100s for the cluster, its alot more likely to be the sender sticking, which will cost about £30 to replace.
