URGENT HELP PLEASE - shuddering, no power

Hey guys - owned the s3 for just a couple of weeks now and had it at an Audi specialist to have certain things done. Had an oil change service, CV boots replaced, new brake discs and pads, thought all was well..

BUT, I picked the car up on friday - was taking it easy cos of the new brakes and car was running perfectly. Parked it for the weekend and only drove it again this morning. Now, the car is shuddering like hell - especially under harder acceleration and it feels like there's no power AT ALL. Even the dash shakes. I have no idea what the problem could be.

Heard of limp mode - but I'm new to the s3 so I have no idea if that's the problem. I'm sh!tting myself now - anyone know what could be wrong!?

Coil pack probably. You could uuplug each pack one at a time until it has no difference in the running, thats the faulty one then, or VAGcom her, it will tell you which cylinder is missfireing. Don't be tempted by non genuine parts, the coils are one of the bits i would say to get OEM

Does your ESP light come on when it shudders? Or like Byzan said it could be a coilpack.

Don’t panic man; it can be easily fixed if it is a coil pack failure. (Sounds like it to me, bet its the first one).

Stick with OEM coilpacks, don't buy a cheapo aftermarket one.

Another vote for coilpacks here mate, dont panic too much, hopefully it is a quick, easy and cheapish fix, again, make sure you only get the genuine ones from Audi, they should have plenty in stock as its probably one of the most common faults with Audis!!

Cool - thanks guys - that put my mind at ease. Will see if I can get it checked today.
Yup - this is my very first coiplack failure. Well, I hope so at least. Nope - no ESP light (what would the problem be if it did come on?)

Is it worth replacing all 4 if the problem is the coilpacks?

Well, if you've got the money it makes sense to change all four but in my experience I've had two failures in over four years. One becuase I didn't let the temp hit 90 before booting it (schoolboy error) and the second one a week after I had the remap.

There's been a few revisions with coilpacks, might be worth checking which ones you have on the car. I think the part number for the latest ones should end in R but this could have changed recently??? Can anyone confirm?

All kinds of awesome! Had a crappy start to the birthday this morning (hold back on the wishes though, at 24 I'm finally starting to feel old) - rushed the car through to the mech this morning - then off to buy cake for the office folk. I arrived at work feeling slightly p!ssed off until the mech called to say that it was, if fact, my coil that died (no. 2). BUT, he had a spare one laying around that he fitted and isn't going to charge me for. He said I may as well hold off buying a new one - until the next one packs in anyway.
