Exclamation Ł450+ Just for an Audi FSH Stamp?

    Alright Lads,

Ive just sent an email to the stealer as my S3 is due its 10,000 mile service and i was wondering how much a full one would cost. The car has done 74000 miles and the water pump and cam belt was changed at 60000miles. So since its last major service was 15000 miles ago i thought i get another one.

Anyway here was my reply fro Audi Ayr:

    Dear Mr Ryan,
    Ref: Audi S3 “V” registration

Thanks for allowing us to quote for the Service/Maintenance work on your Audi S3

Based on the information provided, we can offer to carry out the Fixed Interval Service (every 10,000 mls / 1 year) including fuel filter for the price of Ł199.00 inclusive of Vat.
The Rear axle (Haldex) oil and filter change would cost Ł99.00 incl. Vat. As for the spark plugs and Ignition leads, they form part of the coil packs and would only be changed if and when necessary (e.g engine misfire) following a diagnostic check.

    Many Thanks
    Tommy Smith
    Ayr Audi

(Plugs and lead + diagnostic check Ł150)

Now tell me Ł450+ for a stupid Audi stamp?
When i can get all the stuff listed above from my local specalist for Ł200 WTF.

Any comments or opinions welcome lads.

    Cheers. Raggy

The dealers just need to be worked a bit. I was in exactly the same situation as you last November, haldex and 10,000 mile service at about 70k miles.
I phoned around the specialists and got a similar price to you, but decided to ask Audi if they could do the Haldax service and JUST the oil change and I'd supply the oil. The price wasn't close enough but after a little persuasion they did it for Ł156 which was less than the quotes from the specialists, and the oil I brought myself cost Ł35. They also did the full service inspection on the car, checking brakes, suspension etc.

Then I brought an air filter from their parts department for about Ł13 and changed that myself. I didn't do the pollen filter or fuel filter as it wasn't time according to the service schedule. Then I brought the correct NGK spark plugs from ebay and changed these myself. Only thing left that you've mentioned is coil packs, but you'll soon know about it if one of these have gone!

The invoice for the work is below. I think a specialist is probably better than Audi in terms of quality of work, and I wouldn't be put off a service history with specialist stamps, but I've got FASH and preferred to keep it that way. If I couldn't have got the price to match/beat the specialists I wouldn't have bothered with Audi.

Just realised they also did the Pollen filter (part num 1h0819644b), so even better than I thought!

Audi stamps mean nothing when the Car has gone past 50k miles and has no Warranty left, FSH is FSH!

it's only a V Reg car. Not really worth it IMO

I have sold many cars in the past and since I do all my service myself, I keep all the receipts. And buyers are happy with this and don't even bother looking at the service book.

They care more about the MOTs in which they can also check the mileage

A VAG specialist stamp is worth more in my opinion and also in the opinion of anyone who knows what they're talking and wanting to buy your car when you eventually sell it on. An Audi stamp just shows everyone you've been shafted. A good specialist knows far more about older Audi's than your average Audi dealer, they care more and have more pride in their work.

In all fairnous it's only Ł199 for the Audi Stamp. The other items you could do yourself or get a specialist to do. The haldex change record is just a tick in a box in the service book isn't it ?

Yes and no. Audi will not entertain certain warrenty claims or goodwill payments unless the service book is fully of Audi dealer stamps.

For example, try claiming against the anti-corrosion warrenty if your book isn't full of dealer stamps.

Incorrect, I had put a Warranty claim for my S3 about the bubble roof gutters, it was FAudiSH for first 4 years and specialist after that, and it went through no problems.

Yes, Audi cannot dictate that their "warranty" is only valid if they have done all the work. That is illegal.

Cheers for the info and opinions lads.

Ive just check my book and its not FASH one of them has been missed but its a specalist stamp, so i'll just save myself Ł250 and get my specalist to do the job to keep it FSH.

    Cheers Again lads.

but then you can still use the cash saved from not doing the service at the dealer and use it to get the paint done. There will still be some leftover

Im in the same boat - car is on 80k and quote for full service + haldex + brake fluid change is 556 incl VAT (less price diff between long life and stnd, maybe Ł15)

Specialist was coming in at 450 odd via T&C in Crawley....

For the hundred quid i may keep the book FASH as in my mind it will help sell the car when i decide to sell...also nice to get the full 'health check' report as I know pretty much everything has been done that originally appeared when i first bought the car - power steering pipe weeping, numerous bushes/anti roll bar/wishbones etc etc

If the specialist was cheaper i'd be tempted but i wont put the car into a numpty garage as I want to know they have experiance changing the haldex oil etc - I'm guessing some backstreet garage putting rubbish/incorrect oil in would abuse the 4wd something rotton!!

    What are people's thoughts ?
51 plate Audi S3 - Silver with Bose, Symphony 2, Armrest and of course Rs4's.....

Ist Audi after 8 VW's in a line......

Driven/borrowed through work..RS4 Wagon, Focus ST3, Golf R32, Astra VXR..

how will it sell the car better? by how much?

any well-known scpecialist will do it cheaper and their stamp is just as good as the dealer one. IMO

I think the main point here is when the time comes to sell the car, it all depends on who is buying it and whether or not there want FASH or FSH. There seams to be mixed reviews here so it looks like self preference.
I bought the car with FSH so i know when i decide sell it someone else will buy it, and at the moment im gonna save Ł250. So off to the specialist for im thinking.

Before I got my Audi all I knew about cars was that they run on Petrol.

I thought that a good full Audi service history would be beneficial. If my car had not had one, I probably would have passed on it to be honest. That was just my thinking at the time.

After having the car for some time, seeing the complete incompetence of some of the Audi Garages and recommendations of specialists on this forum I now think I dont need to take the car to Audi for a service.

So with all that said, I think there are others that were just like me, and that they would like a FASH..... hence it might sell the car.

I actually never went to buy the car I have now, I went to buy a scooby but it was not at the garage and I just walked around and spotted my baby. If the Scoob did not have a FSSH, I would not have taken it also.... was just my way of thought.

Had my paintwork done by Audi and mine isn't FASH.

Than again if I had the choice again I would of paid for a decent job

What has corrosion warranty got to do with FASH?
As for "Audi goodwill payments" not something anyone on planet earth has ever experienced to my knowledge!

Oh well, the goodwill payment I got on my old A3 when it was 16 months out of warrenty from Audi (gearbox failure) was monoply money then. And to quote Harrogate Audi the only reason I got the goodwill payment was because I had FASH.

Personally, if I wanted the Audi dealer stamp and didn't want to pay Ł450, I would get the Ł199 service done and get everything else done by a specialist.

I actually used to do this with my BMW's, get the basic service done by my local $tealer, get the stamp and everything else (brakes, discs, alignment etc etc) by a specialist or myself.

FASH does have quite an impact if an Audi dealership is playing by the rules and T/Cs of the corrosion warrenty.

The small print of the warrenty states that for the 12 yrs warrenty to stand regular inspections over the life of the car ( or worded similar) is need to prove that not non-approved repairs (such as replacement panels etc) haven't been do to the vehicle where corrosion may exist.

These inspections just so happen to be part of an Audi service.

And Yes before anyone jumps down my neck, we all know that this isn't what happens when Audi spanner monkeys get hold of our motors for a service.... but thats what stands in the warrenty T&C.

And it's perfect legal for them to require it.
