if its tempermental and hard to master then you wouldn't know unless you have driven it,insurance would be worth it in the long run.
    where abouts are you?

how is the hybrid going gazza?
What downpipe and cat you useing?
dani its all good at the moment, im very pleased. Im in desperate need of a fmic now tho, suffers badly from heat soak especially in hot weather or prolonged hard driving.

Im runnning a pipewerks (spelling) downpipe and decat, i was told to extract the best from the hybrid this was a must really

what hybrid are you using then??
im not looking at replacing the clutch i only dont the clutch at the end of last year, if it wasnt a must do job back then id have waited to get an uprated one,
however im a mechanic so doing the clutch isnt a problem its just the cost of uprated parts,
personally though i wouldnt want the car to be mapped agresivly id prefer to have a little less power with a nicer drive so would stress the clutch less anyway,
im using the 300bhp aim as a loose guide to what i want to achive but would be happy with 290-285bhp and 300lbf torque if it means the turbo isnt pushed beyond its capabilities along with the rest of the engine ancilleries. i just want a little more then i have now
however if it was a bigger turbo id want more like 300-325 bhp as imo it would cause less stress anyway as there would'nt be any huge torque spikes
Kev i've replied to your PM and its A backdraft hybrid. My car is quite high milege 115k and it has been remapped for a while so the clutch needing replacing is partly down to that i should imagine. If you have just replaced your clutch you should be okay providing you dont abuse it
    Absolute Red 8L S3 Revo, Hybrid Turbo, 3" downpipe, decat, Ds2500, FMIC 300bhp & 330 lb/ft

........ To Come, Sachs clutch & Fidanza lightened flywheel, BBS CH Reps, AP Coilovers, Rear tie arms & 20mm spacers & eventually MISANO red respray

    just another consideration.

Sheeesh. If you can't afford to insure it properly, you can't afford to modify it. Insurance companies have no problems at all with big turbos.

same question still remains if you go hybrid though neither option is cheap, to do a proper hybrid conversion your looking at JBS manifold (when released) hybrid turbo, 3inch downpipe and sports cat, con rods so you dont have to worry about bending the std ones (welly done his with stock turbo) possibly injectors as this would be hybrid flat out, then a fmic so easily 3k plus with mapping etc but thats all out on a hybrid imo id do all what i have listed but should be a feckin quick car once done easy 300bhp and 300lb/ft imho

I did say earlier on this thread that I didn't want to go BT after seeing all the work needed to do it but having done it (and having done a lot of the work myself) I can say I am soooooo glad I went BT over hybrid as I think I just would be disappointed spending that money and getting performance that is not much above that of a mapped std S3

With the (possibly) imminent appearance of the INA and JBS K04 manifolds and the relatively cheap cost of an exchange hybrid then this option is something that also appeals to me but clearly the prospect of bending a rod doesn't. Can the map be set up in such a way that the torque spikes are avoided?

My earlier comments were based purely on a personal preference and cost but since having been in a couple of BT cars prior to me doing mine and the realisation that I could do a lot of the work the conversion myself meant that my in built miser gene could cope... LOL

Going BT is well worth it, granted there is a lot of work involved but done right its just brilliant.

Coincidently, Bill has recently finished a BT conversion on an 06 plate Polo GTI. This was one hell of a challenge as the engine bay is very small but the result speaks volumes... 483bhp for a start and a car that may now end up being top billing in a recent magazine photo shoot...

Yes there is a lot of work involved but the results are just on a completely different level to a hybrid K04 and the S3 is a great platform to do it with IMO...

wow, now that is pretty tight in there..!!!

im sure the BT is well worth it and i also will be doing most of the work myself.. i can imagine the feeling when you first start the car after all that work... a couple years back i had an mk4 Gti and i did a K04 turbo and clutch upgrade on it and it was awesome...!!
but on the other hand not everyone has the knowledge or time to do the work themselves, in that case they have to turn to some mechanic to do the work, and i don't know about you guys in the uk but over here almost no mechanic is trustworthy, all they try to do is find ways to take as much money from you as they can and that is one on the reasons i have chosen to do the work my self
