Hello everyone. I have recently bought an 2001 Audi S3. Its a great car and so far i am very happy with it. However today i was doing some inspecting under the bonnet and noticed a large split in one of the hoses. The hose is about 1 1/2" in diameter and it located just above the engine and connects to the large L shaped pipe. Anyhow i taped it up using some duck tape and took it for a drive. When i came back the tape had blown through so i assume there is a lot of pressure coming through this hose and i noticed the turbo was taking slightly longer to come in. Will this split affect performance or am i just imagining things ? I dont know exactly what the hose does so i am hoping somebody can help me with this problem

Thanks.
Sean.

Welcome to S3 ownership Sean!

I would think that a split in any hose ain't a good thing, but as to affecting performance its difficult to say without seeing which hose. I would guess that if the duck tape has split during a drive, theres pressure, therefore it will affect something! SOrry I can't really help though.

TBH I'd say you must be quackers using duck tape:undwech:

A hole in any hose isnt good but if it took the duck tape off the must be some pressure going though there. Just find the part number of the hose and buy a new one from the stealers or if youre going to modify it in the future it may not be a bad idea to get an aftermarket hose from Forge/Samco.
Hope this helps.

if its the one that drops down the front of the engine and connects to the big silver pipe...you'll have to remove the front bumper to replace....id personally go and get a samco/forge item as only £60 ish for that hose and it should flow better with it.

Thanks for the replies everyone. A bloke at work took a look and he diagnosed it as the hose which runs from the diverter valve back to the air intake, which explains why ive noticed a drop in response from the car. Ive been to a local garage who recently took a look at the car and he is getting one ordered for tomorrow so hopefully this will fix the problem. I tried a number of Audi specialist garages and surprisingly they couldn't help me.

Thanks again everyone, i will keep you posted.

I'm having trouble finding a boost hose for the diverter valve to air intake at a reasonable price. Ive been told i can only get them from Audi direct and they want £60 because it comes in a set of 6. Does anybody know anywhere i can get buy one from at a decent price, or if anyone has one they want to sell ?

Cars going to be off the road for a while anyway as a blind woman decided to reverse into the passenger side rear wing yesterday so its going for repair tomorrow. Thankfully i was sat in the car at the time and she has admitted full responsibility !

if its the pipe that connects to the air box which it sounds like it is, goes to turbo and fits DV along the way??

then id suggest buying an uprated item.....

Got the car back from the repair centre and they have done a good job thankfully. ive also managed to sort the boost hose for the diverter valve so im hoping everything is ok.

I took the car out earlier and logged it with vag com and the highest reading i got for air mass flow was 175.5 g/s @ 6360 rpm. Would this indicate that all is well with the car ?

Im also having another small problem with the downpipe where it attached to the turbo. The bolts came loose the other day and the threads have stretched pretty badly so they need replacing asap. Do you think it would be best to take to a garage and let them sort it just to make sure the gasket and threads are ok ?

Thanks
