Urgent help needed please.........

Went to my car at lunch and saw a puddle of oil on the road (about the size of a peice of A5 paper ish) Its been sat there sinse 9 this morning.

Looked underneath and found this...

Smells like gearbox fluid and its coming from the gearbox so im guseeing its the gearbox lol.

What is the green bit above? Am i going to need a new gearbox? Fecking well hope not!!!

Please help!!!

btw its a 1999 1.6 A3.

Is it safe to drive the 11 miles home trip tonight?

if possible wip the fill bung out and see how much is in it if its just below the hole itll be fine for a short trip like that.
best way to dip is to stick a finger in the hole youll feel the oil

What so the green bit comes off? What hole? lol. Sorry I not got a clue.

no theres a hole with a bung in it on the side normally fron loks like a sump plug that needs taking out to check level
