It's probably a small electrical switch placed under the seat. It indicates when the seat is all the way down. If it's faulty the seat thinks it's in it's lowest position and the adjuster button won't work. Seat out operation. Seat all the way back. Unscrew one (or is it two) bolts and seat will slide backwards enouhg to get it out. Jiggle a little with the small microswitch and it'll work again. Replace it to be sure.
