    S3 Tuning

hi im new on here and i am thinking about buying an S3 in the next couple of months.

just wanted to know what power the s2 engine can handle without having to have any of the internals forged etc.? both the 210bhp version and the 225bhp version.

i have seen a few with th MTM upgrade? these are 350bhp and i just wanted to know if these are running standard internals? or do the have forged pistonds and rods etc?

any help would be greatly appreciated?

    thanks craig

Yes the internals can deal with a reasonable amount. 350bhp is no big deal for it. Thats what the mtm stage 3 gives you roughly or a normal BT setup.

If you want that bhp though might aswell spend your money on something which has that power allready. Expensive stuff the BT's.

    Yes they are all 4wd.

You could see about 260bhp and 300lbs with the right mods.

    Remap is the big one.
    Panel filter
    Recirc valve
    Silicone hosing
    Exhaust

They are the basic engine mods. If you like a spirited drive though the best mods are to be found on the chassis. Shocks, springs, arbs, rear adjustable tie bars will need changed but will transform the handling. Theres posts at top of this forum about these mods.

Should be mentioned that its torque that kills the 1.8t engine rather than power. Std rods are good to 280/290ftlbs... much above that and it turns into a lottery as whether you bend them or not.

Most BT conversions revolve around replacing the rods. The std pistons etc are ok although if you are planning on upping the rev limit much then I believe new valves (1 piece exhaust iirc) are recommended.

remap is the biggy as said, most of the other mods are lots of money for little benefit.....

standard air filter does the job a modified one does
OEM DV is more prone to failure although after a year of being mapped im yet to witness,.....
hoses give a little benefit although only a tiny bit extra torque from tests

best bet is remap and see how ya go, then if you wana go stage two you'll need full exhaust, air filter, DV as a minimum which when combined with the cost of a stage 2 map will end up being over 1500 for 10 bhp differne

Silicone hosing... think I should upgrade mine?

If so whats the recommendation or are they practically the same... Forge or Samco?

I dont expect gains but more reliability?

    Cheers.... and no hijack intended

    Hi Brother!

Yeah, I read them all (a few times).

But what I mean is... the hose kits are 100+ quid... Is it really worth it? Are the standard ones unreliable given that my car is 6 years old or should they still be up for the task?

You done hoses? Have a lot of people?

    Cheers

Silicone hoses wont give you much of a gain or really improve reliability they're just stronger than standard hoses. For the money I refuse to buy any silicone unless one of the standard hoses needs to be replaced.
