quick question, water pump

I need to do the water pump on a 1.8T '99 A3, does the timing belt need to come off to get it out?

you may as well change the cam belt at the same time as I think it will need to come off.

Agreed, don't forget to get a tensioner damper too. I just got the tensioner roller and found the tensioner damper had seized.
