Cost of Diagnostic check ?

Hi All,

Am new and bought my very first A3 Turbo 3 weeks ago (Silver 2001 facelift).
The engine management light came on a few days ago and i think i gotta take it to Audi to have it plugged in and checked out.
Do they charge for this (more than likely i think !?!? hoping not tho)
what is the cost ?

I realise that if there is a major problem then the cost could escalate but the car had its 2nd major service a week before i bought it from Audi main dealer so I am hoping it just needs to be reset as I have read in many posts on this forum.

Any info on this much appreciated,

ManyThanks

isnt it in warrenty if you bought it from the dealer?

Hi Len,

I hear Audi charge around £70 for a check. Other VAG specialists have quoted £35. So what ya could do is buy a lead (around £50) to plug into a laptop, and d/load the sharewear version to do your own checks. My lead is still in the post - been waiting ages now /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif That's assuming you got a laptop ideally.

Hope this is of some help.

Rob, where did you get your VAG cable from. 50 squid sounds like a great price. Is that for the USB version or serial. If it's for the serial do you know if the slower transfer rate restricts the logging you can do?

If you only bought it from a main dealer 3 weeks ago get it back to them straight away. If somethings wrong with the car which you have to pay for you can reject the car and get another one before a month is out..

As someone has already pointed out though it'll more than likely to be covered by Audi.. get in quick tho.

Len where are you? maybe someone in your area could give you a shot of their Vag-Com. Total costs a pint or two

Luuc the USB Vag-Com cable is not any faster than the serial version its the ECU thats the limitation
