1998 Audi A3 Auto Automatic Keys Stuck in Ignition ... HELP!!!

Hi All, this is my first post here!

I have a 98 1.8t sport auto.

The keys have been getting stuck in the ignition on occasion and now they are jammed there permanently.

I have heard that there may be a solenoid or cable that should unlock the keys once the gear shift is put into park.

Is this true? Is this the culprit? Is it a cable or solenoid or both?

How can i fix it!?

Welcome. Cant be of much help. Im sure someone with an auto will come along and tell you if this is the reason.

My old polo auto had an "inhibitor switch" which was meant to stop the car being started whilst in gear but my polo never locked the keys in ignition maybe its a similar issue. Mine would not work properly and sometimes thought it was in gear when it wasnt. Could not tell you where is it located but i could fix it by fiddling with the gear selector in different places.

Cost me approx £30 to get it replaced at a local garage
