Hello there

As the title suggests I have lost my one and only car key. I can't even get into my car!
Are there any alternatives for a replacement other than an Audi garage of which I know will be expensive. I have searched this forum but cannot find anything relating other than key coding ( I think I need thet too) I live in aberdeen and have a 98' A3 1.8t.

Any help or guidance greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I think you'll be hard pushed to find any help here to be honest Fly.

If i were you.....seriously.....ring your insurance company and find out if they can help. Failing that Audi is the only other option.

I'm no expert but the above is what i'd do in the case of loosing only key!

yer sounds like goo advice to me. I would also keep a very close eye on the car and lock it in the garage with as many padlocks as you can find!

I heard (from a friend who works for Norwich Union) that all their new car insurance policies cover keys that are lost. They organise for the new keys to be replaced / coded etc. Worthwhile checking who you are covered by and see as Mr.G says if they will assist you. No harm in trying!

Hi give this guy a try he is an auto locksmith in aberdeen cheers Ian

make sure you have your log book handy as some dodgy people have been known to pretend they are the owners when they in fact have stolen the car.

Hello and Welcome to the site.

hi fly. if the guy in aberden can't help i may know a guy in spain but his company is in south east england. who should be able to help as he makes the keys for audis an other makes to:kissmyrings:. if you have no luck i'll give you his companys number

I may be wrong but i thought audi can cut a key to the chassis number. Give them a call and ask. Apparently they send the keys away for cutting.

as mentioned some insurance companies will cover this and may replace locks, ignition etc but i think some will only cover this if the keys were stolen.

Thanks everyone for your helpful replies. I have since called specialists cars in Aberdeen and they want my car up there ( i'm locked out) and it'll cost me circa £200, I've also called Lockfast and awaiting thier reply. Thanks Heliflyer!
With regard to the insurance route, I think my excess is around £150 so wouldn't save that much and I would like a speedy solution as this leaves me without car, still an option if costs look to escalate beyond my means, I will need to check my Terms & Conditions for cover.

Thanks again folks

Much apprciation.

I dont think the key thing is part of the excess thing, its like windscreen cover, just give your insurance and see what they advise, what you got to lose dude, if anything you could be set to gain.....

flyfisher any luck yet with your keys. if not private me and i'll find out how much my mate will change you an what he needs to do it for you
