    Fire in the hold!

Has anyone managed to set their brakes on fire?

I took a couple of friend out in my car the other night for a bit of fun. Fairly new OEM discs (S3 front stock rear).

Anyways, after "using" them a fair bit we pulled up at a set of lights.........then lots of smoke and smells.

All four discs were smoking..........alot!! I had to pull off and drive about to cool them. After inspecting all the OEM paint has burnt off, but the brakes didn't fade once in use.

Thought my car was a gonner for a while

    Rubbish design.

Yup, actual Fire on Bula82's rear pads.

It puts itself out pretty quick though.

Flames were licking out through the spokes on the wheel.

Fronts were faded at that point too.

Indeed you are correct, standard stuff is rubbish.

Never even came close to fading Black Diamond/DS3000 with RBF600 fluid though.

Interesting. I think I'm going to have to rethink my braking setup.

I've had smoke off all 4 corners on the A3, with the far outter edge of the alloys hot enough to burn your skin, but no sign of fire.

I managed to set some ebc green stuff pads on fire on the front of my mini, after a VERY quick decent into newton abbot from the top of one of the toors up there, being chased by an MG metro

Well at least it's not just me then. I'll start worrying when I see flames.........or is that too late :-)

    Worthing you say?
I don't get it. Care to elaborate?
