I get some crunching on my first to second gear change in the cold weather...but only the very first time I do the change.

Also my 1st and 2nd gear have become very notchy in the last two months.

I've searched the forum and the following seem to be what people have done...
  1. Replace gearbox oil.
  2. Get linkages adjusted.
  3. Replace dogbone mount with a stiffer one.
  4. Replace synchromesh on gearbox.
  5. Replace gearshift lever (here)
  6. Replace fuel pump
    1. Some guy (here) noticed his crunching\notchy gear changes disappeared after changing the fuel pump?
Just wondering if anyone has any other recommendations?

How can changing the fuel pump make any change to a crunching gearbox ???

Haven't a clue :) . I just wanna get a list of things people did to solve this problem on their car, and then investigate them all on my car, and try the things in some sensible order...then pray to God my problem is fixed.

1. What I would do first.

I had a Passat G60 syncro that was practically undrivable with it's 1st to 2nd change. I put Redline synthetic in it and it was 95% improved.
