    Advice

Hi, not had my s3 for long and recently noticed that sometimes in 6th gear when i put my foot down the revs jump up and then come back downand then increase like they should. strange i no, i thought this could be the clutch but after talking to my mate who is a big vw'er he reckons it is the Lambda sensor that is prob on its way out and that its quite common, what do you guys reckon?

Im sure there was a chap who had the same issue as yourself, he was experiencing clutch slip in higher gears also, to me it seems like clutch slip as well probably just on its way out when it gets worse perhaps it will start slipping in the lower gears??? Im sure somebody will be along across shortly fella to give there advice.

cheers guys, i'll be gutted if its clutch, do you have to change the dual mass flywheel when changing the clutch? anyone else on the lambda sensor? Any way of testing this?

I had similar symptoms and it was the clutch.

Mine did it in 5th n 6th so maybe urs isnt too bad yet.

Sorry but i think its gonna be a new clutch n flywheel.

sounds like the clutch to me. i had it in 6th gear from low revs it would jump and then it started to occur in 5th etc. if your around midlands an good place is midland vw. flywheel isnt a must but to be honest for the sake of another couple hundred quid i would and did.

I would say about 900 including labour.

This is what i paid but others have got it cheaper depends on if you have any mates that can help out with the labour charges. The parts are prety expensive especially the dual mass flywheel.

My advice get some quotes from local specialists and see what they are offering and make sure you tell them its an S3 as this is more difficult to change the clutch on than a regular A3 FWD.

Am a southerner down in sunny soton so a bit of a trek for me but sounds like you have found a good garage.

The price for the clutch + flywheel change is so large cos when they type the job into their little computer thingy it tells them its an 8-9 hour labour job so most quote a figure round that plus parts.

678 thats a deal bite his hand off and get it booked in!!

If you are interested in performance upgrades there are alot of clutches out there that handle alot more BHP if you are thinking about modding the car.

Also some have gone down the lightened flywheel route by using the VW Corrado (the VR6 model i think) clutch and flywheel instead.

I went OEM and got the Sachs clutch Kit and the LUK Flywheel my car has been remapped by CC and the OEM clutch seems to handle the extra few ponies no worries.
