Air Con

Hope you all had a good Xmas and have a happy new year.
I have never been aware of this before but i noticed that over Xmas my air con would not stay on, the system would blow hot and cold air but if i pressed the * button it would not stay on? but yesterday when the car was warmed up it worked fine, any ideals?

It may depend on the outside temp. IIRC if its 5 degrees c or lower the aircon pump wont switch on so as to protect itself.
Just a thought as its been pretty cold here lately in derbyshire.

as wibble said above. mine does this below 3.5 degrees when the frost/snow sign shows on the dash display

Is it supposed do this on the facelift models, the one with the econ button as on my a3 the compressor kicks in below 3C

It is -8 where I am today... The compressor starts up. I don't know if that is good or bad. I hope it is not bad!
