Hi Chaps, My clutch on my 1999 S3 is starting to slip and will need replacing soon. The car has been remapped to 260bhp and I need some advice as to whether an OEM clutch will be up to the job or should I look at something like an uprated LUK clutch kit?

Also as mine is fitted with a dual mass flywheel, is this worth replacing at the same time??

Any advice would be of great help, Ali

Hi Ali not too sure but i think if your remapped, people say the uprated ones will be a better choice,

Just out of interest how did your clutch start slipping? like was it on boost or would it just slip all the time? cheers

any views ....?

Hi Chaps, It has started to slip on boost if you really give it some but i've also noticed that when driving slowly in the work car park, the clutch feels as though its struggling. I have found a LUK clutch kit for £120 https://sslrelay.com/buypartsby.co.uk/clutch_kit_details.php?recordID=318 and am hoping that this will be up to the job. Have got a quote for £100 from my local independnt to fit it which I don't think is too bad as apparently it can be a bit of pain to fit. Let me know what you are thinking of putting in yours. Hope this helps, Ali

well, if the clucth is coming out and if the cars been beaten or high miler, i have been told there will b play in the dual mass.im changing the whole lot clutch and fly ect ect.

standard clutch is luk anyway so same just cheeper then the steelers, £100 fitted is really god as its over 6 hours job are te garage anygood though

you do have tpo ask your self that, i was quoted £195 for the clutch and flywheel (single) and my mate who is a audi tech s going to fit. he said 5-7 hours then testing.

£100, cheap but good jjob...? if they dont look at the fly wheel, which could be ******, you will shell out again, and if they dont fit it correctly and your fly wheel is fine, it will skrew the whole lot...then a big bill.....

any views??

Cost me about £900 iirc for a slave cylinder, new clutch and duel mass flywheel, all standard parts fitted at an independent.

I'd be concerned at how knowledgable someone offering to fit one for £100 is on the cars.

mine cost around £700 for clutch, flywheel slave cylinder clutch switch and change of gearbox oil all at midland vw,if your around the midlands, aalot of people can vouch for them

When you say standard clutch do you mean standard for the single mass flywheel?

The standard clutch for the dual mass obviously won't fit onto the single mass flywheel.

The standard clutch for the flywheel you are looking at would be the mk3 golf gti 2.0 clutch, which is the same as a corrado G60 clutch.

You're MUCH better off coupling the ABF single mass flywheel with a VR6 clutch kit. It's a direct fit, and it's rated to 300lbft.

Also, whilst you're at it, it's well worth getting the flywheel lightened too, they skim down so easily. Mine went from 10kg down to 6kg, and the pick up is now amazing. it made such a great difference to the car.

The specialist has done a few and is a family friend hence the reduced labour rate! I'm going to go with a OEM sachs clutch and replace the dual mass flywheel with another whilst the work is being carried out. Might be a bit more that I bargained for but I intent to keep the car for a few years so its peace of mind that its all been replaced. Thanks for the input though guys!
