Would never have expected chains to cost 80 a set. Wouldnt have thought youd really need them in this country would you?

Thinking about my avus i dont think chains would fit at all as they run close to the suspension.

I would be intersted as to how you get on because im doing a road trip in sweden for xmas/new year which will be very snowy. (guessing a rental canr will have chains)

That is this country though, they'll be telling you on the news to stock up on tinned food and fire wood because there is 2 inches of snow outside.....

Yep i agree, Ive driven in the snow in this country and havent had any problems. If it did get that bad i would just not drive.

I think they are mainly for people in countries with lots of snow and have to drive somewhere.

I live in Czech Republic and everybody.... I mean everybody uses snow ones. So I was here last year and was going to work in the car, there was snow... came up to a set of traffic lights and could I stop! Not a chance, had to mount a central reservation or I was having a bump with a Skoda Fabia. That day I ordered some Goodyear Ultra Grips and got them fitted (One of the front Alloys was a bit buckled because of the bump :-( ). No problems after that.
Saying that, I was on my F1's and they are just no use for the winter weather, tread was fine but just no use.

Something to do with not just the tread but the temperature the rubber can cope with, summer ones as they like to call them are like plastic in winter. It was -8 here this morning, it has been snowing heavy also. Same goes for Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Austria... they all change. In U.K. we just dont bother.... I thought it was a scam until that wee incident. Ah well, you live and learn huh.

In some countries it is law to have Winter ones. Also, there are some that it is not law but then the police basically say you were just begging for the accident to happen and side with the winter tire vehicle.

If I was in uk.... Scotland to be exact (where I am from), I dont think I would bother.... I did not in the past anyhows.
