    Help needed - Advice.

    Hi all.

    I'm after some help (again). lol.

    When i first purchased my car it had what i would describe as an exhaust rattle. Kinda sounded like the heat shield rattling on the exhaust, more aparent when you start the car but went away after say 3 seconds.

    I later took the car to Audi who advised me not to drive the car. Turns out that the Timing chain tensioner was malfunctioning and was rattling. It used to make a similar noise during gear change around the 1500rpm mark.

    Cut a long story short, the car had the work done by a brilliant Audi Specialist. Totally trust the person working on the car. Took him 2 weeks to sort the engine out, he does i'll admit take his time but he does an extremely thorough job. Everything is spot on before he lets me have the car back. It cost a total of 1,050 or there abouts. Of which i paid around 450 even though my car had no purchased warranty, Consumer credit law states that a dealer/garage has to provide you with a car which is road worthy. As the problem was there when i purchased the car they offered to cover some of the cost.

    List of parts was well extensive:

    New VVTI unit
    New cam chain tensioner and all accessories.
    New oil pump
    New water pump (precaution)
    New cam belt, tensioner and pulleys
    New engine mount bolts as some were missing (woah) full ASH too which is madness as it means Audi technicians were to blame for this.
    New oil/filter, obviously
    and a few extra parts.

    Anyway...after having the car back all was perfect, for around a week......when the ECU/Management light came on. Me, worried was straight on the phone to the Audi Specialist and asking what could be the issue. I took the car back and the fault was a water temp sensor, so had this replaced.

    Then the ECU/Management light came on again a few days later, so i booked it in.....wanted the Drop links and ARB bushes done so thought might as well get it all done at the same time. The car's been there since Friday, which i will admit is causing me no end of problems but i suppose it can't be helped. The Garage does not have a courtesy car either so......"No legs leiutenant dan" for a while. Gutted.

    The fault on the ECU this time is Camshaft position sensor, which intermittently appears then disappears. Would this be as a result of the work carried out? What are your opinions on all of this?

    I'm getting a little wound up because although the work is being carried out i'm left with no car. Work is a nightmare, getting to and from. I'm worried about a mounting bill again as this according to the specialist is not due to the work carried out.

    I think this is a case of ***t happens unforutnately. The guy sounds competent enough for you to return to him each time.

    Yeah, it may be possible to effect a sensor or two when working around them, though it rarely happened to me whilst I was a mechanic unless I blatently bashed something with a hammer and smashed it.
    You'd never be able to proove a sensor fault caused my a technitian if it isn't visibly damaged.

    Could be a wiring fault but might simply be coincidence.

    I suggest you start learning about your car and invest in a fault code reader. This way you wouldn't need to pay labour charges to diagnose and swap a sensor if you are concerned about costs.

    Thanks for the reply dude. Much appreciated.

    It's hopefully going to be fixed today. A small "ish" bill of 200 which is ok as i've had a new camshaft sensor fitted, front droplinks and ARB bushes.

    I'll be happy when i have the keys in my hand though.
