bought some rims and the guy was running 255/30 profile tyres (18" BTW)
this seems overly wide on a rim that is 235mm from outer to outer edge.

anyone running 8.5" rims? what tyres do you use?
I was looking at 245/40 F1 assymetricos, but am worried they may not protect the rim edge if i get the wrong profile

cheers

on 8J? I did that and they are stretched
hmmm...maybe mine are 8.5J

******!
just checked..they are 8.5J

sorry post edited. anyone running 8.5!?

225/40/18 on an 8.5j should give a really nice stretch, not too gay and dub scene, but should look really nice.

I wouldn't go over 235 personally.....

i have 8.5j to and still with 225

feck! my looks pants with 225.
proper "gay VW scene" as you put it!

no way I would run that.

my trouble is I think what I have been recommended is way to wide 255/35

I have 8.5J with 225/40/18 Pirelli P zeros. When I first got them, (came with BBS LM's) I thought they looked a bit stretched to tell the truth but now just look fine to me.

What size actually should be on that size of alloy without any stretching? Like what does the manufacture of such size of alloy say?

Excuse the pics, ment to be about the exhaust not the rubber or wheel.

they look much better than mine and they are michelin pilot sport 225/40's I have put on just to see. will get a picture up today.

the RS4 boys reckon they should be 255/35 as it give the same wall height and rolling radius as a 225/40. thats a 30mm jump for 1/2" of rim.....

So does anybody have 255/35 and if so, can I see a pic? Or is everybody with 18's running same as me... 225/40. Dont meant to hijack the thread. Suppose it is still on the same subject tho :yahoo:

As I say, seemed stretched to me when I got them but I know nothing of tires and wheels. Now I have got used to them but would not mind seeing a 255/35. I will need to buy new tires at the start of next year I reckon.

see if you can get a photo from the back down the side of the wheel to show the sidewall
cheers

Who? Me? Or the person that may have 255/35?

Hehehe ok :icon_thumright:
Will take some more pics and upload after work then.

But I still would not mind seeing some 255/35 if anyone can.

Excuse the state of them.... had bad weather here so he is a bit grubby :haha:

Hope it gives you the idea.

I have 225/40 18 on my 8.5 wheels. Looks good, tiny bit of a stretch but doesn't look silly.

None that particularly show it, I'll take a pic in the daytime if I think on.

i have 225's on mine with stretch, all others i know of have 235's and sit flat on the walls, but i like the stretch.

So what would 255/35 look like?

I will need to look doddgy in a car park checking out wheels I think.

find an RS4, this is standard fitment for the 8.5j 18" wheels (unless they have 19"s)
thats who told me to go with those

I have gone with 245/40, its slightly over sized but not enough to worry and I need all the rubber I can get with coilovers!

you've just revived a four and a half year old thread to tell us all you run 225/40/18 on 8.5J rims? Thanks for the heads up
