Hey, as the title says. It would be easier to keep my car on the road while I built an engine in my garage, I was wondering if the N/A blocks were the same if I were to fit;

  • A new 2.0 FSi crank
  • 83mm forged pistons after a re bore
  • New rods
Then when i swap the engine, take all the ancillaries from the original and fit to the new block?

I only ask as a N/A block is so much cheaper and I will be changing all these bits anyway, failing that, is there any difference between engines that were turbo'd from my '01 AMK engine to older ones?

One more question, are the heads the same on the N/A engines?

Many thanks, James

doh!

Can someone correct jim s3...........................please?!

Maybe my idea of getting a £125 engine to mess around with isnt so good!

I think fundamentaly its the same, but you would need to be drilling holes for coolant or oil etc where a NA doesnt need them.

The head is deffo different sadly

Oh well, i wouldnt be confident drilling holes etc, it was only a thought. I suppose i can make the money back selling my current block when i swap them.

Are the blocks different throughtout the 20v range?

All 1.8T 06A blocks with internal water pump can be used. Things differ with regards to rod/piston designs. Cranks are all forged and tough as old boots.
