Hi all,Can anyone tell me what turbo i have,i have a 2000 A3 1.8t Quattro, engine code AJQ....i don't know how to find out what turbo is on the car,any help appreciated.....sean:greyrs4:

I have an AJQ engined Quattro and have been led to beleive it's just a standard K03 turbo.... if you find any diferent i would be interested to hear

I've been told that the KO4 is a straight swap for my KO3 and would remap to 250 from my 201

the k04-001 which is a direct bolt on for k03 equiped cars isn't as efficient as the k03s. It's not an upgrade if you already have the k03s.

k04 vs k03s:

K03S - Torque comes in early and with a big spike, holds well in the midrange but drops off towards the end. This is reflected in the power with a steep rise but flatenning earlier.

K04 - Torque comes in later due to later spool up, spike isn't has high but torque is flat and holds upto the higher revs. Power is more uniform upto the high revs.

The end result is peak power is about the same for both, they just get there in different ways.

As for the K03 it's a bit pants, low torque and not much happening after 5krpm. With just a remap they give about 185-190bhp with loads of other mods you should be happy if you break 200bhp.

There isn't a KO4 that is a direct replacement for a KO3.
its a Ko3 hybrid. you can get a KO3s hybrid as well.
The KO3 hybrid with push slightly more air than the KO3s but its
not worth the extra money.
KO3s hybrid will do about 270 ish! (pinch of salt)
Get a KO4 hybrid, have seen these do about 320 (again, ish!! depends who is mapping it!)

Hope this helps,

There is a K04 that is a direct fit for the k03. It's called the k04-001. Not to be confused with the k04-02x fitted to the S3/TT or the k04-015 fitted to longitudinal engined A4s and passats.

Not really worth it these days with all the other options around. Like you say better to go for a hybrid.

To answer the OP question. Your car is listed as having a k03, but to be sure I would get a camera or torch down in the engine a see what the metal plate on the compressor says.

the KO4-001 is a hybrib made by turbo specialists, its them that gave it the name.
Its not an off the shelf KKK item.
A4,s and passats never got the KO4, that's why the most powerful was a 190bhp, it was just a tuned KO3s

Just my 2p's worth.
