I got the temperature sender replaced on my 1999 S3 today in an Audi Service garage.

Now, I read on the forum that the green one is better\newer and that this is the one to go for.

I told the garage that I wanted the green one before leaving the car in. But when I picked the car up they said it was a blue one they put in (same colour as the one that was in it already)

When I mentioned that there is also a green one, they said that they knew nothing about it...

The part number for the temp sender they put in is:

059-919-501

I just did a search of the forum again and found a part number for the green temp sender (see post here http://audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=54675&highlight=green )

059-919-501A

Are these definitely different part number i.e. does that "A" at the end meaning something? Because the guy in the garage did say that they put an order in for that part and they just get whatever comes in.

So are these two different parts?

Try taking the car to someone who knows what they're doing, like a VAG specialist, rather than a parts replacement factory that is your criminally overpaid Audi dealer.

Will do in the future. But I'd have thought these guys would have known what they were doing.

Does anyone know the answer to my questions?

Are they two different parts?
What is the significance of the A at the end of the part number?

Check out this picture from ETKA parts catalogue: -

Pretty much the same part - same price as well. I think the "F" number (F 8L-X-035..etc) is the car model perhaps, can anyone shed light on that?

Thanks.

Had a look hereand it has
dual temperature sender / F >> 8L-X-035 000*
4 pin green 20MM /
(10) 059919501A
So, they should have been putting in the green sender?

Although that page has the two part number I referred to originally...

seal
A10X13,5 / (10) 059919501

dual temperature sender / F >> 8L-X-035 000*
4 pin green 20MM / (10) 059919501A

What is the significance of the A at the end of the part number?
