    Yaw sensor cost

Guys - esp light was coming on every so often so took it down to Audi who said that the yaw sensor needs replacing. They quoted Ł600 for the job all in. That's a load of cash for a sensor - I just need to know from anyone here if that's about right... any ideas?

Ł600 is very high but then your talking audi labour rates.

This has been covered a few times on the forum, good number of people say it's a job that you can do yourself. There are two sensors, one behind or under the glove box and one in and around the steering column.

I have this fault with my car and in the process of trying to get it fixed had both the sensors replaced. I have a warranty for the car and got it done under that. Took the car to a local specialist and it was near the Ł300 mark, but that was because he had to do some checking to make sure we were replacing the right one.

IN the continuing saga the car is now giving a fault code which when traced back through VAG technical is to do with the brake servo totaling Ł900 worth of work.

So fingers crossed that doing your yaw sensors sorts it for you.

Sensor is about Ł115. I guess yours is a facelift in which case both are under the steering column (Pre facelift one of them is behind the glovebox). It is about half an hour max to do, just to need to remove the facia under the steering column. It is easier if you have small hands or don't mind scraping your knuckles. I guess prices is bumped up as they will remove more of the dash to enable easier access for them. Plus they've got a few cups to tea to drink.

    ok - thanks guys.

Until I can work out whether to do it myself (I have big hands) or pay for it, is there anything I need to be aware of when driving the car, or is this just a failure of the sensor?

Finally, I'm in Chandler's Ford in Hampshire - if anyone can recommend a 'specialist' (thanks FazS3) in my area, I would be grateful...

    Cheers

    Felon,

For specialists in the area you've got a choice of ABTech in Totton, or JKM in Pompey. There's also Regal in Soton but I've never used them for my S3. They're supposed to know their stuff though.

Andy has hit the local big three specialists in the area. I personally had a few issues with ABTech when i had my clutch replaced but others have had good experiences with them.

I have also used Monks VAG specialist as he also seems to know his VAG cars he does work out f a shed in a field but is reasonably priced usually. Dont thin he has a website but you can find his contact details via google.

If there are any other VAG people in the local area i would also be interested in finding out there details.

    Hey Bob,

Good to see you again! We never did meet up to do some testing on our cars did we! Would you be available to do something in the next week or so? I'll very shortly be in a position to throw some money at my car to try and finally get it running properly, but I still need to try out another CC S3 to work out what is different!

I'm still convinced I've got a boost leak..there's a definate hissing sound when accellerating, although JKM swore blind they'd done a boost leak check and it was all ok.

labour is Ł62 per hour (this includes vat) - local Audi dealer is Ł115 per hour (this includes vat). Will probably give them a go as they are not far from me. I'll let you know.
