Engine Fan

The Fan used to cool the engine is not working

The other night went for a drive and noticed the engine was alot hotter then usual so stopped to take a look and something was even hissing.

I then noticed the engine Fan was not running and hasn't been working today.

Anybody have any ideas?

Does the fan work if you switch the air con on?

I have a 1.6Sport i dont think i have air con

how would i be able to tell if it was the motor running the fan or the sensor that turns the fan on when things are hotting up are broken?
i was looking at buying the full system and it was £150
