    Who's got Backdraft kit?

    Hi guys,
Just interested to know if anyone else on here has the Backdraft turbo kit on their A3/S3?

If so, how have you been getting on with it?

Any comments or feedback is appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Glen

I love the power delivery. I have managed to see off some very potent cars on the road, such as m3 CSLs, and porsche Caymans.

Overall, not too bad, just niggly problems persisting.
I think I have a leak in my exhaust and possible problems with my mapping causing strange boosting.
This is the closest I've been to the car running perfectly.

I see you've got the mtm conversion.
How was it for you when you got your MTM conversion?
Did have many problems to iron out?

    Hi Ed,
I was just as surprised as you. Because on paper even a normal M3 (E46) would've left me behind. But I managed to pull away from a CSL razzing it from a roundabout on a dual carriage way. Priceless moment. The guy in the beemer was already assuming the overtaking lane.

I don't know what power I'm running. I had it on Maha rollers with 327 bhp, but that was before I had a finished map from Revo. Not sure what it is now.

I don't think its unusual for a Big turbo S3 to display that kind of performance.
A mate of mine who also had the Backdraft kit, use to tell me how M3's use to eat dust. I didn't believe him at the time.... I do now.

It'd be interesting to see how the big turbo conversions from other tuners compared.

Cool... MTM is some serious kit I read. What turbo do they use?

My fuel consumption use to be pretty good. Just over 30 mpg if driven like an old man. But recently, it has gotten worse. I'm not sure, but think it may have something to do with the leaky exhaust.

Hoping to get it sorted on my next visit to Backdraft.

Dont bother, i wouldnt do it again, i went from 265bhp to 325bhp in my s3 after spending thousands. My evos was running 270bhp standard and cost me about 1000 to get 90bhp extra! my s3 cost about 6000 to get 60bhp!

don't think the m3 csl could have been trying mate,a 330bhp s3 would struggle to keep up let alone fly past him!!! Remember your running a gt28rs which is only slightly bigger than a ihi turbo and it max's out at 340bhp on a 1.8t with standard cams, smallport head with decent bolt on's.Faz have you ever got your car rolling roaded other than when it was done?Every uk mtm conversion i have seen have done about 300bhp!I raced one at pod and it was running 14s 1/4 at 100mph!
Glen have you ever done a 1/4 at santa pod?

    Hey Ryanc,
I've never done santa pod. Don't see the attraction of drag races myself.

You're probably right. The CSL probably wasn't trying. I didn't fly past him... I just pulled away from him.
He was sitting my rear bumper for ages until that moment. So why would he try, but not try 100% if you catch my drift.... Very un-M3 driver like that would be.

I think sometimes the end figure of 330bhp is not the whole story. It's about how its delivered. Perhaps more of the power comes in sooner on the Audi than in the beemer, because of the turbo. (More torque too)

In my experience what wins on paper, does not necessarily in practice.
Porsches for one, are not super car fast on paper, but in reality they go like stink. Must be how the power gets delivered.

    Back to the original topic:
The MTM kits sound really reliable going by some of the feedback so far.

The MTM kit is extremely reliable... I mean i owned the car (FAZS3) for one year... Done roughly 10k if that but.. not a single problem with it.. no misfiring, taking back to MTM, faults etc etc.
Only spent a small fortune maintaining it but other then that didnt have no worries. Total peace of mind really

MTM Kits say 345bhp... for the 2001 models and above. And 330bhp for below 2001 models.
M3 were never a problem... Neither were smaller Porsches, Scooby's and Evo's.
Not sure about the M3 CSL... hardly ever see any TBH... has for the M3 i use to pull off with ease.. In the end i got so confident i use to wait for them to catch up and pull off again...
MTM kit from my experience were very reliable and if you end up spending money on Bigger tubros then i'd definatley go MTM.

you guys are funny! You would have absolutely no chance against ed's or my evo on a circuit. The s3 is so dynamically flawed it's untrue also heavy for a hot hatch!Faz- Mtm kit, there is a reason why there so reliable because they only produce 300bhp,i don't need to experience it mate,i've been in one when i had a ihi s3 and thought it was slow and the guy who owned the mtm thought the ihi was quick!

Drag Racing is pointless ,i agree ..but it does give a good indication of the power/speed of the car,i'd only use santa pod as a benchmark as i've found others to be well out.
