read on another recent post, there is an alan key adjustment -is this true/false?

Height can be adjusted via one of the two white allen key adjusters you will be able to see on the top of the headlamp, one adjusts up and down the other adjusts the beam left and right.

I have the same problem on my headlight too at the moment.
I've just replaced my xenon motor on the offending side, but still no luck.
You have to do the adjustment while it is in "learn mode".
To do this, you need Vag-com. Follow this:

However, this did not work for me. When I have set the headlights to "learn mode", it appears that I cannot adjust the offending headlight any higher. You may have the same problem, as I would doubt your headlight would point at the floor for no reason.
Have booked my car into the dealer for investigation. As I've changed the xenon motor and done a headlight alignment with no joy. So gonna bite the bullet and hope the knowledgeable boys at Audi know why.

I had the same problem with both headlights. A friend of a friend had to plug his laptop in and reset the headlights to there default position and they have been fine ever since.
(No parts were replaced by the way)

Sorry to revive this thread but I am still unfortunately suffering headlight alignment issues.
The car has just been into my local dealer and they have supposedly fixed the alignment issue I was having for a princely sum of £165.
The dipped beam is now fine, but it now appears that when I put my high beam on, it just shines into the sky.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
I thought there was no adjustment for the high beam, and that it was just a relative aim to the dipped beam.

Sorry for the hijack, but I'm having a slightly different problem with mine, the height appears fine on the garage wall, but the top of the beam is flat as if it's been adjusted for driving on the continent rather than sloping up to the left as you'd expect.
Also they seem to vary between being normal brightness and very dim - at times it can appear as if I've got little more than sidelights on!
Any ideas anyone?

I too have the problem of them only illuminating a few metres in front on dipped. Bit worried about the cost tbh... £165 seems an awful lot for adjustment... can this only be done by a computer???

The simple solution is to adjust the little white screws on top of the headlight. This will nearly always work unless the screws are damaged.
Make sure it's properly dark so you can see the beam, and be certain you're adjusting the beam height and not left/right. A few turns in the right direction and you will see the beam raise. Don't overdo it as you'll be blinding people.
You might need VagCom so the motors don't go back to their normal position after you've adjusted them.
As a side note, the xenons on the S3 are dire.

took it into Audi and they said they'd adjusted it, that night, dipped was fine (as it was when I took it in) but my drivers side main beam was pointing into the tree tops!
took it back again and they removed the light and showed me that the badly designed white allen key screw things that become brittle and extremely stiff were just spinning on the serated spine in the middle!
they glued it and said they'd set it again so I went and parked directly infront of a warehouse about 20 feet away after picking it up. dipped was still fine but drivers main was obviously a good 8 to 10 inches higher from just 20 feet! gave up with Audi at this point
that night I parked it about 25 feet away from a brick wall (perfect for setting lights) and spent about 2 hours adjusting then testing on the road then adjusting again and so on
it's perfect now for both dipped and main
I don't get it, the adjustment moves the whole light so why is dipped perfect and main so far out
when I was adjusting it, one turn on the screw seemed to have so much more adjustment on the main than the dipped!
VAG-COM tells me my lights are incorrectly adjusted now but they are perfect, I'm just worried that at the next service Audi will fiddle again!!!
