I have had my car in at main dealer today (80,000 miles) and had a shock when they called me to update on what they have found.

The have done the service (god knows what) £440

Then they go on to say i need the following doing.

Bushes - £305
New radiator - £418
Wheel bearings at front - £270
Rear ARB - £480
Slight play in steering rack - new rack - £450
Cambelt - £550
Haldex oil - £100
A/C service - £89
Brake fluid - £99
Dash DIS screen - £550

:wtf: is this overpriced or what?

Yep over priced!

Did you not notice Wheel bearings, steering rack, dash dis, smelly a/c car getting over heated??

I echo adbus....get yourself a specialist

lol, phew. i'll take it else where for most of the jobs then.
im ragging the **** out my courtesy car for this!!

Is there a list of specialists on the forum or a good place to find one?

Not many specialists in Harrogate that I can remember..

Could be an excuse to 'use' the A59 to Preston and then go see Awesome. :)

What could go wrong with an anti-roll bar ***????????????????????????????????

Gavin

What on earth possesed you to take a 5/6 year old car to a main dealer? They charge £100 per hour ***! Plus the mark up on non Audi parts, just to get the 4 rings printed on Mann filters, Jurid pads etc. Pretty much all the maintenance parts, aircon and cooling are not made by Audi.

Mmm
Blimey , thay is an awfull long list there
I would say , it is better to get a second opinion , in my opinion
The rear ARB????? bushes I am sure would be the problem there....if any
Rad????? would need checking
Dash????? maybe worth checking too
Brake fluid.... £59 + VAt with us £69.33 inclusive
haldex £59 + VAT again £69.33 inclusive

I would get a second opinion
Sarah

I am in agreement with the rest of the guys here, take it to an Audi specialist. Surely there is one in Yorks somewhere? Either that or consider a trip to Manc to Awesome??
There is over £3k of work there that the main dealer is quoting for and to be honest I think they are taking the p!ss!!
I must admit I took my car to the main dealer when I first bought it (in May this year), but never again! £100 an hour labour is in itself a p!ss take.

What did they do in the original service you had done?
In my 80k service in May - oil, filters, plugs, haldex, brake fluid etc was all done for £590 (before anyone says - I know I paid over the odds wont be doing that again!)

There's a specialist in Leeds. IVC I think they are called. Supposed to be pretty good. I used Awesome for most of my work, not the cheapest but pretty good. There is also another specialist in Bradford..... Chris Umpleby

Youve got Ron Turnbulls in Teesside if you were to head north. Theyre not too bad

Check it's actually the rack that's at fault (if you can feel play) and not the bushes / track rods. I was told at a well known specalist that my rack was done for (and so bought a new rack) and it would appear it's not actually the rack but some totally screwed track rods!

PS. A new rack for a S3 fitted at Audi will be over £900 last time I checked (£450+ for the rack) so I don't know what they quoted you for).
