Christ alive guys listen to what you are saying?
In theory, not allowing for losses along the way, double the revs does mean EXACTLY double the speed.
my car IS doing 4000rpm in 5th gear at 100mph, no matter how you get there. It's a mechanical fact, that will not change unless the clutch slips.
At a given speed, in any given gear, assuming no clutch slip, you will ALWAYS be doing the same revs.
if 30 in second is 3000rpm, then 60 in second HAS to be 6000rpm.
So, I will make my point again.
In top gear, my car is doing 4000rpm at 100mph.
In theory then, at 7800rpm, in top gear again, my car will be doing 195mph.
100/4 = 25mph/ 1000 rpm.
25 x 7.8 = 195.
It's incredibly simple maths guys, and requires only the most incredibly basic knowledge of mechanics too.
My mini for example, does just over 16mph per 1000rpm in 4th, and at 8000rpm in 4th, it would be doing 8x16 which is 128.....
I've hit 7600rpm in 4th, equating to 121mph, which showed up as 119 on the GPS.
