Tonight coming home from work the car started slightly chugging at low revs, so took it out for an hour 2 see if problem would pass but it only got worse. Now its severely chugging in all gears and theres a loud swirling noise coming from under the bonnet in time with the chugging but this goes away when clutch is down, any1 got a clue wots up with it?! The car is fine to start and also when idle. Any help would be appreciated cheers

Wow, that's not a nice feeling, what engine?

Are you able to have it scanned with VAG-COM? Something as serious-sounding as that should throw a fault code.

I had a simialr juddering which proved to be the coolant temp sensor. Some of your symptoms fit that, but not others.

Check around the DV and intake manifold for pipe leaks. Common with A3 chassis.

cheers for the quick reply.

Yeh it aint a good feeling at all, its just a 2000 1.6 sport model, havent got access to a vag-com over the weekend but should be able to get my local audi specialist to have a look at it start of next week.

Ok eventually got the car hooked upto vag com heres what came up:

I cleared these codes and started the car up again and scanned again but it didnt pick any codes up the 2nd time.

The car starts fine, idles fine, revs in neutral fine. Soon as I try to move off the car seems to not want to move and I have to hard accelerate to get it moving to which it then seems to buck/jerk/move back and forward as if the wheels are egg shaped if you know what I mean lol. It still holds the revs and can gain power but still with this bucking movement. Any ideas before I get it picked up by the garage at the end of the week?

COILPACKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its the exact same as i had just unplug them one by one until it makes no difference to the engine then replace that one

Check out http://wiki.ross-tech.com/ as this wil explain the codes as well as possible solutions:

00533 - Idle Speed Regulation: Adaptation Limit (Add) Exceeded

Possible Symptoms
  • Bad Fuel Economy
Possible Causes
  • Air Leak between Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor and Engine
  • Injector(s) faulty
  • Fuel Pressure Regulator faulty
  • Throttle Body faulty
  • Intake Air Filter dirty
Possible Solutions
  • Perform Throttle Body Adaptation
  • Check Hoses and Pipes to/between Components
  • Check Intake Air Filter
  • Check Fuel Pressure Regulator
  • Check Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve
  • Check Injector(s)

I had an erratic idle and high revs and after cleaning the TB and performing a TBA it was all good. Admittedly I got very different error codes then what you have. Still maybe worth just checking..
