hey guys as you know im selling my s3, its been on the market for over 3weeks now and not really had much response from it! Im going to put it back on ebay this weekend, also relist it on piston heads, would you recommend changing anything about my ad? Ive lowered the price to £11000 im going to take some new pics this weekend as those ones look quite dull! Any advice please to help sell?!
thanks

"The bodywork is in very good condition and is regularly detailed by a friend who is a valeter. The interior is as mint as they come, you will not find a better example. Car has been cleaned at least once a week every week! "
If the cars detailed on a regular basis shouldn't the bodywork be mint? and take out the friend bit as it seems to imply you don't pay someone to do it even though you put the upgrades were done regardless of cost? Car should be cleaned once a week regardless so lose that as well.

just my view Ed

First and foremost get good tyres on the car.

I absolutely wouldnt even have started the engine and crawled forward with the state of your tyres.

Both fronts were pretty much down to the canvas, asking for an accident and theres no way I'd test a car in a dangerous state. Not to mention it means its no longer roadworthy and suggests you dont look after your car.

Dave its got new wheels and tyres now! Anyway i only had about 3people look at it so the tyres isnt the prob!

Plus you just have to be patient.

While alot of people would love thier S3 to have that sort of power, you also find that 99.999% of those people wouldnt spend the money on getting it done or ever buy one with the work done, no matter where it was done or who by or at what discounted cost their getting it at. The fact is that they dont know how the cars been driven, and lets face it, who would get a S3 tuned to 350bhp and then just drive it at the speed limit everywhere, not giving it some stick!

Plus the colour is quite subjective on your car, while you may love it, for some people who like the S3s for their subtlety its not going to appeal to them, same with it being pre-facelift. Few on there in yellow between £7700 and £9750 so any buyers could be feeling a bit spoilt for choice?

I know you certainly dont get anywhere near what you paid back on a BT S3 when their sold, the history for mine makes me feel bad for the previous owner. May just not be the time for selling it or you may need to drop the price a bit more?

All three of those people would have seen the tyres though and been shocked!

Grathies post above is exactly right.

Ed - have you got all your standard parts? You might make more reverting to standard and selling the kit?

2 of them were in the dark!! Um i have thought about the standard parts and can get them, but who would want to buy a 350bhp car with standard **** brakes and suspension? And if i did change it all i doubt i would make much on the bits! Also would have to pay someone to do it all! Alot of hassle! I know the yellow does not help!! I dont really want to drop the price much more!!

Well I paid just under £10k for mine with all the work done etc, and Id have not spent any more on a tuned car like that

Think what Dave means is getting the turbo kit off as well, then with your car being a decent milage you could sell that on for good market value, and then sell the complete Jabba kit on for a bit, should see your 11k total figure then

And getting people viewing cars in the dark is a bad idea! I always put them off till the weekend etc if its going to be an evening. Main rules are dont look at a car in the rain or in the dark!

Ed,

Think you just have to be patient. Most people looking for an S3 in my opinion will want a standard one.

That said though id make you an offer if i had the money!

J

lol take out a loan lol!! Well i did say to the people come back and look in the light! its was up to them to look at it in the dark! i haven't got the old turbo and loads of bit to change it all round + i would have to get it mapped again, Thats another £500! it would end up costing me money!

Sometimes you gotta spend a bit more to get a bit more tho I guess. High Power S3s attract dreamers and people with Standard S3s wanting to see what ones like and if its worth the extra money (and lets face it, for the outlay it really isnt!) I mean if you spend £500 returning it to standard, then got 8k for a standard low milage S3 and then got £4k back for all the bits from the kit etc then youve got £12k sat in your pocket. Better than having a car sat on your drive that isnt selling

Assuming Awesome kept all your old bits and flogged them on then and made a nice bit of extra money ontop ofthe markup? Good business sense!

I know what its like trying to sell a specialist car, Ive had my Rallye advertised on and off for a year now, all Ive had are total time wasting dreamers and vag-scene boys who think they know more than they do. Hence its still in my possesion!

Dont sound so desperate in ads, thats a biggy! Makes people think there is something wrong and you need shut of it before it goes bang. They have to want it, rather than you needing rid of it.

As someone up there said most people are cautious of buying a pre-tuned car. Mods usually de-value the car to some degree.
I am not too keen on buying an S3 that is modified heavily I would like a relatively standard car.

Remember it is still an 8 yr old car for £11k. Colour as mentioned is also a major thing e.g. I wouldnt be bothered by the outside but couldnt live with the interior.

You just have to wait for the right buyer to come along OR reduce the price a fair bit. I had only 2 or 3 interested in mine.

Take more more pictures with a better camera esp the outside. Take as many as possible and also pictures of the new tyres showing tread depth etc...

Upload to photobucket or any other site and put them in your advert. As many as possible. Buyers want to see pics of what they are buying. CLose-ups etc...

Ha ve you lost the a8 wheels.....? If so..........goood!! They are an acquired taste IMO on an a3.

Just hang on in there and be realistic with the price. A 53 plate with your spec is only really going to make 14kIMO, so maybe 10k is more realistic?

A8 wheels look better in real life than pictures, but they are still the mingingest ming of all minging wheels. Even RS4s look better.

Jeeze. I agree with Dave... I know Im 24 next month but didnt realise my mind was getting that old! Im gonna have to lay off the coke for a bit I think

Yep you gotta watch that coke, all the bubbles go to your head lol. :jester:

wasn't the engine completely rebuilt when you had the turbo done??
also put the bumper grill back in people like the mods subtle on S3s.
i would buy it only thing is its yellow and about 11k out my budget!

lol I wasnt being funny, just all they need do is search:

Ed, if you want to sell that car DO NOT mention this website. If anyone has half a brain they will come on here, find your post and link them to your car, search for recent posts... and it really doesnt make reassuring reading

I always do a bit of searching on the net first, amazing what you can turn up

Lol I know what to do now if I ever wanted to sell my S3. Few months before I advertise big it up on here loads, put a link with something like this, :arco:wow standard car dives like its got BT conversion 100mpg average lol :jump:

Well to alot of people spending 8 to 10k on a car is a big layout, so you do tend to snoop around a bit

Thats especally true if you love your cars, as you will probably join either the most local or popular forum, and thats a quite likely place to find your car

Takes a few minutes to search, and that tells you more than any HPI Check will :p

Very true when I showed the pictures of my car (pre crash lol) some people recognised it one guy went to look at it after I had bought it. So it goes to show this is a top site for info on your car. I paid just over £8k for mine which was good for the mileage, Iv seen them go for between £7k to £10k which is now an average price band. The main problem now is the steep tax rise so newer cars after March 2001 have that as a major pain in the ***, more people are looking at pre tax S3's so the price of Ed's will be affected you might need to bite the bullit and lower it more.

.........yeah, and and he's a spacker too boot......!!!

Just kiddin Ed!!! lol

same as above dooooood, if i had the option of a 225 and a 350bhp car...id buy the 225 all day long...unless....i had experience in the S3 and knew what i wanted....

350bhp just sounds too far away from standard spec and would scare the crap outta any newby to this type of car...which narrows your market quite a bit

If sorted suspension wise there is nothing to fear about bending a BT S3.

You learn to drive them differently, they dont have the big torque spike at about 2700 revs that a stock remapped one has, so when the BT torque comes in its 3300+. POwer is far more linear, more of it, but more progressive.
Also, you can drive "percentages". By this I mean if you want to press on, in many marginal situations you can actually be a little more cautious and safer as you know you have massive grunt to "catch up" once the marginal condition is clear.

So how much of a change is it from a CC remapped S3 to a BT S3, as in 0-60, and through the gears acceleration. It seems a heck of a lot of cash to fork out for the whole conversion (brake and suspension upgrades)

0-60 is only maybe 0.5 or so sec quicker. 0-100 is about 4 sec quicker.

In gear is chalk and cheese, BT, 60-100 in 4th is 6s. 30-80 in 3rd is 5.5s.
BT will knock about a second off a 1/4 mile is well set up.

Guess its if you have the cash to spare its only worth doing, I thought there would be a major change in 0-60 time. Wonder if a hybrid version of the standard turbo would be close to the BT power.

Well it depends what you believe the stock remapped 0-60 is! I think the best may nip into the 5's, BTs will do 5.5 all day, even a bad launch, get it right and it is 5.1-5.2.
It's running out of revs even with BT to do it in 2nd, the 0-70 and 0-80 on is far quicker with the bigger turbo on there.

Well, according to the Rolling Road Ed posted, his car is only making 13ft.lbs more than my car and 11ft.lbs more than prawns. Yet he has a massive turbo compared to us. Something wrong there surely.....
