    What a nightmare!

My car went in to Audi last Friday to find out why the engine management light was on. Turns out it needed the cam chain adjuster replaced. They stripped the engine down but it turned out they didn't have the part in and couldn't get it until Monday. Because of this I had to reschedule my CC remap from Monday to 1PM today as Audi promised me my car would be back yesterday.

As of 4PM yersterday Audi still hadn't started putting it back together again!! I told them the car must be at my workplace at 1PM or CC are not going to be happy. It was too late to reschedule again, so Audi said "fine it'll be ready mid morning". My mate went to pick the car up at 11am today and guess what, as of 1PM it's still not ready!! Lee from CC is here sat in his van eating lunch and The car isn't due back for another hour!!

I'm so embarrassed that the car isn't here and CC are sat in the car park like lemons . I can't even give Audi any grief because all the work is being paid for by the garage I purchased the car from...it's 3rd party warranty work so as far as they're concerned and isn't as high a priority as a normal customer would be.

    /me runs off to cry!

14:25 and it's still with Audi and they keep on avoiding the "how much longer is it gonna be" question! Lee can't stay any later than 3PM. It's not looking good

The car arrived at 3:15 and Lee has is now cracking on with the work.

The upside of the whole saga is that Audi have fitted a new cambelt, water pump and tensioner while the engine was apart and it hasn't cost me penny!!!!!! WOOP!!

    Sounds well fishy that!

Sounds like they did the job wrong initally and it broke something. Then they had to change a load of other things that broke or got damaged.

Happened to a friend who went for a new cam shaft posn sensor on his golf. One of the "fully trained techs" dropped a bolt and thought it came out of the bottom, but could not find it! Fitted a new one, of course the offending bolt was on top of the bottom pulley, fired the car up and clatter clatter etc, belt stripped, bent all the valves too.

Have a good look round it to see if you can see any other new or disturbed parts.

It will be worth the wait mate i swear
as you now i have the same problem but ive had my cc done anyway at midland vw after the diagnostic showed that i needed a cam tensioner inside the right section of my head & also needed a oil pick up pipe as this caused the problem with the tensioner they've told me to get the work done asap & not to boot it (which is bloody hard not to do as iv' parted with 312 ) so got my baby booked in for monday been told a day then i can have her back which will cost me another 500 but did give her a little push on the A5 on way home & bloody hell is it my s3??well worth it!! (just got to drive like miss daisy for a few more days)

It does sound a bit strange yeah, but I'm not complaining. The story is that because the engine was in bits anyway they offered to only charge the garage paying for the work trade price on the parts and nothing for the labour.

Lee from CC was amazingly patient and a really top bloke. He had finished the remap by 4pm and we took it for a test drive. All started off ok..car running sweet as a nut and sounding great. Pulled out the works car park onto the main road and had to floor it in 3rd gear at 30mph. As soon as we hit 3k RPM there was a misfire Tried it a few more times and kept hitting a soft limp mode. I have a dying coil pack on cylinder 4 which is the most tricky to change. He didn't have any spare on him today so I have to pop to Audi tomorrow to pick one up.

Really annoyed that the car still isn't sorted but at least it's one step close!

Yeah think it'll be best to change all 4. If one has gone then the rest are bound to go sooner or later.

It was Salisbury Audi the car went to. Whatever people do AVOID SALISBURY AUDI AT ALL COSTS!! Even after getting the car back I've spotted a small vacuum pipe they hadn't reconnected and the coil pack on cylinder 1 wasn't pushed in fully! Think I'd better give it a good going over tomorrow to see what else they've missed!

    The saga continues....

Drove down to Southampton Audi in my lunch break and after handing over 120 of my well earned pounds I set to work fitting the new coil packs in their car park. I'd seen someone mention that all I needed was a 5mm allen key and a 10m spanner so (stupidly of me) that's all I took. Nobody mentioned though that one of the allen bolts you need to remove to get to coil packs 3 and 4 is hidden under a couple of pipes which really need to have their clips removed with a flat blade screwdriver.

Cue me popping into the dealership and asking to borrow one. The gits wouldn't let me..said they couldn't because of their liability insurance and I'd have to book the car in to get the work done, which I wasn't willing to do!

I then spent the next 20 mins trying to hold the pipework out of the way and undoing the allen nut at the same time which was in really tight. It finally came out and I got all 4 coil packs replaced in 2 mins.

My misfire at 3k RPM is now fixed, but I now have a slipping clutch at around 4k RPM under load It's bearable so I'll keep driving it until the clutch goes completely but I still can't 100% enjoy the remap until it's sorted.

Anyone know roughly how much a clutch is to replace?

.......600......not sure of the part, but the dealers charge that labour!! I think book says 7-8 hours as the transfer box makes it twice as long apparently as a 2wd.

You only need to do the flywheel if its knacekered, I have had 2 18T cars for 5 years now, done well over 120k miles in them and I have had two clutches....not needed a flywheel yet.

Oh forgot to mention. The garage received the bill from Audi the other for all the work carried out. 1049..Ouch!! So glad I paid that little bit more from a garage with a warranty now!
