Hiya i have an 1999 S3 at 265, its on 92k now and the "service oil" message is now displayed.

After speaking to the old owner he regulary changes the oil himself. I will
be able to do this however is the message displayed because of the milage or sensors in the oil ?.

The Audi garage said this requires a 20k service. Which is around 300 quid ( i think ) Will the computer need to be reset by Audi ? or will it sence the new oil ?....Im rather confused, I would prefer Audi to do this as to continue FSH. However is it worth saving 250 quid almost ?.

hi, it is just down to the mileage. the dash light can be reset by pressing a couple of buttons on your dash. if u look in the handbook, it tells u how to do it.

When you reset it, will it automatically come back on when the next service is due ?

Cool, As this milage co insides with a 20k service is it still worth going to Audi for the full whack. Stamp etc..

certainly will. normally 9,300 miles. as for audi doing the full service, its personal choice. mine is the same mileage and i use vag specialist as it loads cheaper and car is out of manufacters warranty, so don't see point of paying extra for the stamp.
