Koni sport - adj. shocks with matched springs.

    Evening folks,

Appreciate the best set up is the Bilsteins/H&R but I intend to replace the following over the next month or so in 2 stages :

ARB's with uprated items - Eibach or H&R
    Wishbone bushes with OEM replacements
Balljoints depending on what my mechanic says on monday
    Top mounts
    Drop links
oh and a cv gaitor and power steering pipe

What stage does the car need to be re-aligned - I know it needs sorting after the ARB's go on but what about when the wishbone bushes r replaced?

Seeing as that little lot will cost a few quid on top of the cam belt I have just had done I thought I would save the 175 quid by going Koni over the Bilsteins....seeing as I never tend to keep my cars for much over 1-2 yrs..

Anyone have 1st hand view of the Koni sports - guessing they are pretty good but may be a little harder than the H&R/Bilstein gear?

Also should I set the rear (adj. off car only) on softest setting or a qtr or a half??

My car at the moment is 65k miles with a broken front spring so the Koni must be an improvement surely.....

Oh, and I'll do the tie arms when the naff Kingstar tyres are knackered (so bad in the wet!!!).....F1's planned

    Thanks

What the "koni" springs, they dont make springs and you can get good ones or bad ones.
If you want koni get shock only and use H and R springs with them.

Do yourself a big favour and save your money up, get it all and have it all fitted together. It will be the cheapest to do this way, as once the shocks are out it is easier to do the bushes (you may be best to get new complete arms from audi if you not uprating busehes as they are cheaper than paying labour to remove and replace the new bush) and arbs.

Anything undon on suspension should be realligned to get the best from it, so get it all done together and have it all set up together too.

There are lots of threads on many VAG forums about weird ride heights when using "Koni" supplied springs so be careful.

I'm going to be doing similar over the next few months, im planning on just collecting all the parts then just fitting it all at once, you will feel the biggest difference then !

I think you might be right, car has been in with a specialist VW mechanic who owned a remapped TT and he has said all the bushes seem fine with the exception of a Wishbone bush which is ok at the moment but may need replacing at next MOT (a yr), in respect of the snapped coil spring he said just replace the spring with a single new oem spring and see how you get on, he is also replacing a power steering pipe (130 plus fitting).

It's interesting that he had a remapped TT for some and left the car standard bar the remap - still recording 2nd on the Gti International tyre handling course...

I think I will hold fire on things and enjoy the car for a while - if I decide on the remap or upgrade to suspension at a later date I will do it then with the Bilstien package (through DPM) but for the moment I will be sensible as chucking loads of money at the car - need to bear in mind these are expensive cars to start with and a cpl of grand more at the time of purchase could have had me sitting in a Focus ST (06 plate with 40k miles and balance of warranty left) which I had for a weekend and imo are good cars.

    Cheers All
