couple of unanswered key programming questions

i have been reading around this topic and ned to get my key programmed to my immobiliser. all works except cuts out by the immo...

1. I have read the key part must be the same p/n to be able to program the immo. however there doesnt seem to be a p/n on my key part. Can someone advise me where it is as both look the same?
2. I have also read that if you try adn start it a number of times the immo will lock down. ive done it twice (it hasnt locked down) and am worried. would starting with the proper key reset this (or should i disconnect the battery?)
