Orange engine light on dash - but epc and control check ok

Got the orange engine light on on the dash, the epc comes on and goes off fine as does the OK control when you put the key in - car drives fine, ticks over fine with full smooth power etc

Manual does not even show the orange light tbh however has the S3 old emblem on the right hand side binnacle so may be the old manual??

Guessing it is a sensor but surprised it's not showing up in poor driving etc - I'll get it checked with Audi next week but wondered if there were any common sensors that go - guessing the MAF would show up in poor driving so may be lamba or cam as it's just had the cambelt replaced so they may have nudged it ??

Any ideas as to what it could be ??

    Cheers

my mate had the same after Halfords changed his cambelt on his TT,might be they knocked it or the sensor is detecting friction which isn't healthy.

cant imagine its that severe, had the belt fitted tuesday and have done approx. 175 miles with no light before starting it back up today after travellint down to Portsmouth.....drove back the 70 miles with it on..cant imagine Audi are crap enough to not set it up properly....with all the tools etc, may be a complete coincidence or the tensioners r a little tight ?

A sensor to tell you when valves are hitting pistons.........??

Are you smoking something tonight!! lol

You have a camshaft position sensor which checks timing between cams and crank, if the belt is a tooth out this sensor will show a fault. Dealers seem to be unable to time the motors fairly often, there are many examples of people who have had this light and CEL after a main dealer cambelt change. (MUPPETS).
Get a VAgcom check to see what the fault is, it could be emission related, (lambda probe maybe?) But it could be you are a tooth out or the belt has gone slack.

Another post from someone who has just bought an S3 and has a problem crop up after a few days. It seems a very dodgy market for buying s3s at the moment!

    Hope it gets sorted.

    Cheers Simch,

I will give Audi a call in the morning. If i were a betting man I'd say it's the lamba probe or the cam sensor was upset when they replaced the cam belt - I'd be surprised if the belt had jumped a tooth as power has not changed and it cant be slack as the top end would surely be minced - it sounds fine and quiet as usual as i said I had covered 175 miles over 4 days and stayed on only when getting back in to come home from Portsmouth...anyway I'll post the findings anyway..

As garages go at least if they do b8ugger things up they r well placed to sort things out anything properly so it wont put me off main dealers...good specialists lead time on booking in is often verging on simply daft....and they dont give you an A5 toplay around in

Well, to cut a long story short the car went into Audi today and after giving me a courtesy car with a bald tyre they diagnosed the coolant temp. sensor and replaced it for the cost of the part - 28 quid in total....bit of a result and that was after dropping of a a6 2.7 paddle shift car to replace the a3 s-line that had the dodgy tyre....

The same thing happened to me (the orange light which isn't in the book - emissions). It was the temp sensor. After it was replaced, all was well for about a month and i think the thermostat's gone now as its overcoolling but fine in traffic. Pretty common fault i believe and its getting replaced tomorrow - hopefully not a major prob, just wish i'd just replaced the two at the same time now!
