Hello,

I used to own Subaru's and an Evo, and always used Alyn @ AS Perfomance for brakes, clutches, suspension etc. Anyway, he does not normally deal with Vag cars, but I asked for a price on a set of B8 Shocks, and he came back with a comepetitive price of £420 all in , if two sets are ordered.
He is a reseller (agent) for Whiteline too, hence I asked for a price on the 18mm rear ARB which was £105 inc vat and bushes etc
I'm not in any way affiliated with the company, I've used his company for a very long time, he offers a friendly service with competitive pricing :)

Your always talking about selling it though, or have been since I've known you.

£420 all in is cheap for B8's inc del and Vat, I'm not sure for a month or two yet, as I need to save up, plus I don't normally keep my car very long :)

We all know GTQ wants something with a bit more 'feel' and a bit more'fun', but the S3 is so comfortable and cosy place to be. :)

He kept talking about a TVR, I wonder if its still on the cards?

Great price!

I am just waiting to hear back from somewhere else, but if this is the best price, I am likely to go ahead. I was going to fit FSD's, but apparently they have stopped them for the S3. :(

Will they only do them for £420 with you in on the deal keendean, or is it any two orders together? "IF" I decide to do it, it would proabably sooner rather than later - anyone else close to buying some B8's? Maybe someone else will be ready by the time keendean is?

Any idea on lead times etc?

Cheers,

ICE

Hello mate where are you based? If you call Alyn, and mention you've spoken with Dean, and there is only one order, it will still only cost you £430 all in. Bit skint atm, so I will wait till next month. It is the best price I have found, his leadtimes will be good, as he is approved dealer.
Are you going for Arb's too? I'm going for either R32 items or Whiteline :)

I'm based near Ipswich, Suffolk. I am going for ARB's, but if I do they will be either H&R's or Neuspeed. Would prefer the Neuspeeds, but they work out quite a bit more :(

Thanks for the info.

I was going for the Neuspeed, but they are too much money, have you thought about the Whiteline ones? I'm based about 30mins from Bury St Edmunds, just curious as I've read posts before that you're in suffolk. I'm going for the shocks next month, if you can't wait, it's only a tenner more :)

Btw- Are the R32 Arb's the same diameter as the Neuspeed ones?

My car proved to me last year in europe how much I really do like it and why it's such a great all round car, however I've got to the point where I either spend a lot of money modifying it (remap or turbo, big brakes, all the suspension and haldex etc) for what it'll be getting used for or sell it and get something else. That said, I won't be selling it if I'm going to get totally **** all as I'd rather keep it and modify away if that's the case.

Jon, I'm still going to get a Cerb, but it'll need to be when I get a place with a garage (and as a second car) after watching them all break down at the ring last year (that's a slight overexageration).

Have thought/heard much about whiteline so am prepared to go with tried and tested products. Might just plump with the H&R's, ~£110 cheaper and no-one really complains about them.

I think the front .:R32 ARB is the same size as the Neuspeed item, if not it's the rear - one or the other

Still a great price, so like you say only a tenner more. Who will be fitting all you kit?

I'm going to get a mate to fit them, or a local garage who I trust. I want to get the Arb's done at the same time to save cost, just unsure if I want to powerflex it at the same time. Sorting the S3 gets v.expensive very quickly, I was thinking the R32 items based on cost, and the fact they are I think the same diameter as the Neuspeed items. Are you going to attempt the job your self?
:) Also one thing that bugs me, if I modify the S3 and blow £800, it won't be worth a penny more, maybe less due to the face it's been modified. Unless I keep all the Oem parts and sell it in standard-ish form. Lost so much money on modified cars, promised myself with the S3 I'd not be in the same boat and keep it std :(

Hi Mate,

Tell me about it getting expensive!I think I have decided to go for the H&R ARB's now. Pat on here has B8's/eibach's and will soon be fitting H&R's I believe. He doesn't have adjustable Tie-Bars and his rear camber seems to be within the acceptable limits. So I might hold back on Tie-Bars until everything else is on and see what happens.

I am planning on using a local VAG/Merc/BMW specialist. He seems confident in fitting the ARB's, dampers and springs so fingers crossed. Has quoted 8 hours at £35 p/h + VAT.

Tell me about dead money.... The way I try and look at it is: Add the value of the mods to the value of your car as it currently is and what else could you buy that betters it in terms of performance/economy/exclusivity... not much I can think of.

I too had thought of keeping the OEM parts, but you then have the cost/hassle of re-fitting the parts and selling on the aftermarket parts. I can't see myself being any better off as a result. Possibly sell the OEM parts and be done with it.

Any more of an idea on when you might be ordering your B8's?

Hello ICE,

Not sure what to do, as once I add ARB's new bushes/top mounts plus the shocks and fitting, I'm looking at about £700-£800 :(
Just not sure the S3 is worth it, but I don't want to change the shocks, then change the ARb's at a later date at an additional cost. Atm, in a dillema.
Are you changing/uprating any bushes while your at it? :)

Hi,

Over the last couple of days I've been in a dilemma too. If I knew I was going to be keeping my S3 for at least another 2 years I'd be more likely go ahead with it. Although, I'm now considering saving up and putting it towards a car to replace my S3 (dunno what tho) as the ~£1300 I would spend cannot be recouped.

"IF" I go ahead I hadn't planned on replacing bushes/top mounts, but I have already put powerflex bushes on the front wishbones (have since read they don't last that long, so back OEM when they need changing). Don't the ARB's come with new bushes anyway?

I think I need to test drive a sorted S3 to really see if it's all worth it.

:keule:

Same here, I've had 35 cars now in 13 years, I want to keep the S3, but I know what I'm like, and its never going to match my previous cars, as out the box an Evo and Subaru is ok-ish. The S3 I wanted to keep standard, but in two minds what to do, I've promised my missus that I'd keep the S3 and keep my motorbike std too :( Just seems a lot of money on car, that will just loose the money straight away, even buying the suspension second hand is suspect, as for piece of mind, I'd have to have it rebuilt. Let me know what you decide :(

ive owned 3 cars in 4 years so maybe in another 10yrs ill be somewhere around the 13 mark.lol
