Hi all

About six months ago the a3 started kangerooing on the revs under the 1k idle speed and only went away when the revs were above 1k, this was intermittent at first then gradually got more often. The radiator fan stopped working at about this time too.

The car then developed a more serious problem that it would hit a flatspot then just die when in the 3k range on the revs, at this point i took it to an Audi specialist who said it was the Mass Airflow Sensor and replaced it. It hiccupped once on the way back with a flatspot but nothing after that so I was happy.

About a month later the car would refuse to start even cold and warm and then after about 20 mins started no problem. Then today it just stopped for no reason at all at some traffic lights no warning.

Any ideas what it could be chaps?

TIA

John

I'm leaning towards a knackered temp sensor, if you know anyone who has vagcom to help you do a diagnostic check, it should show up your problem.

Was going to say your best bet is to VAG.COM it. Would the coilpacks not produce the same sort of issue?

What year is your car?

Early cars can have trouble with the ignition amp that sits on the side of the airbox. On later cars this amp was incoporated into the coil packs.

Give the connections a wiggle.

Cars 2000 W reg. Yeah looking at getting VAG cos i'll always be audi even tho i've had bad grief with this one. How much is it and where from?

Cheers

Someone asked me to post the problem when it was finally sorted and it was the Axle sensor. I don't know what this sensor does but it's sorted the problem out and the cars mint and now finally up for sale. All that stress for £80 sheesh!

The ingnition Amp cost £120 from Audi, and with a W reg your amp will be seperate from the coilpacks (mine is the same reg). It is located on the back of the airintake.Mine failed recently, but the car judder as opposed to the symptoms you describe. I would look elsewhere for you answer. Vagcom defo. Clogged/sticky throttle body?

Think it's fine tho now pal drove it round for a couple of days and she's not made a single moan :)
