Just had my car in for an MOT and they wont pass the beam pattern that the LHD headlamps produce. Even though as far as i way aware there was a lever within the headlamps that control the beam pattern i still don't think they will pass it because there's supposed to be a kick up on the outside of the beam and i think switching them from LHD to RHD removed this kick up.

Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks

I have retrofitted once piece lights, and they have the lever.

Passed twice so far.

have you fitted lhd lights? If so, no they wont work even with the lever in the rhd position. All this does is move cut the extended bit to the right hand side down to the same as the left hand side, it does n ot "extend" the left hand side of the beam pattern forward as a stock rhd lamp is.

yeah this is true, although i think you may be able to get it to pass by just putting a couple of bits of tape over the right bit of the light.

Possibly depends on how strict the MOT station is

Yes they are LHD lights. They were passed in my MOT last year, but i completely forgot that i went to a different station last year and took it to the audi/volks specialist i've been having other work done with.

I mean, it's good that they are doing a thorough check but he is seriously saying that he wont pass it and that i'll have to take it somewhere else. Petty i think. That means i'm going to have to pay for two MOTs, probably be cheaper to try and find some RHD lights!

Does anyone definately know if the light pattern *HAS* to kick up on the outside of the beam to pass the MOT or is this bloke being a w@nker?

as far as i can make out, this website http://www.ukmot.com/1-6.asp#Text_top states that if they are LHD lights they can be passed as long as the kick-up is removed. They say using tape, or kits but our lights have they build in lever that removes the kick-up. I'm thinking of printing off that page and taking it to the tester but i'm thinking he may take it as an insult.. meh i'm screwed..
