does anybody know of anywhere i can find a full exhaust system for my 1.8 turbo a3? i am after a milltek but if anybody knows of an alternative would be a great help. the cheapest i have found is a miltek cat back system for £300. any others out there? thanks
the car is r reg 1998

Check out awesome GTI, they do the full milltek range.

I've got a full turbo back milltek on my A3 and its gorgeous!

Hint: unless you are young and dont give a ****, get the resonated system. I have the non res (got it cheap!) and its too loud really.

I personally wouldnt go for another miltek system, may have jsut been how it was fitted at AMD but mine knocks all the time its a ****** nightmare.

Not sure of any other alternatives, I'll be getting something else when i have my S3 rear bumper on.

My Milltek also knocks all the time.

But, given the mounting possibilities on the A3 chassis, any exhaust will knock unless its a very small bore, and the extra inch on the exhaust is probably the reason mine knocks.

Mind, I also blew a back box and Milltek replaced it under warranty, and I'm only running a decat and not all that much BHP.

Does bigger exahaust systems make much difference on performance?

Save your money for a remap Exhaust is useless very marginal gains.

I've ehard good things from the bluefame systems though?

I had a blueflame exhaust on an old Mk4 Golf GTi T and it was superb and a fair bit cheaper than the Miltek.

Well worth a look I'd say.

Blueflame dont make an A3 exhaust, but they do make an S3.

We used blueflame a LOT for our old company.

If you went to a custom exhaust Place like MIJ, Do you think you'd have a better fitting exhaust than a miltek?

Ie NO knocking!!?

Cheers

I doubt it. Fitting an exhaust isnt rocket science. So chances are, the milltek you fit at home will be fitted 90% as good as the exhaust a specialist fits.

On the A3, the exhaust is attached to the manifold, which is where the downpipe starts, it then comes on down and turns into either a decat or a catalytic converter, then there is about 3" of pipe and it hits the first mount, which is a dual side mount on a small subframe.

It then continues up and around, over the rear axle subframe and joins onto the backbox.

The rear and front of the backbox are suspended in rubber mounts too, but the whole system only has 3 mounting points, 4 if you include where it atatches to the manifold, so there is plenty scope for knocking and excess movement.

I have a blueflame on mine, not sure if they do one for a3 but mines for a Mk4 golf and ive cut a recess in the bumper to fit it. its a very nice sounding system, , does knock a bit but from what i hear, all do! also a lot cheaper than miltek!

I have a jetex system................in my spare room.

I be fitting it within a few weeks. I'll post some pics and noises. I think they are cheaper than miltek......not that I'd know I got mine for free :)

I've just ordered a non resonated Milltek system from Awesome - get it fitted on Monday. Shouldn't be too loud seeing as the resonated system is quieter than OEM.

I have a Milltek resonated system, there is no way its quieter than OEM.

Mind, compared to Prawns non resonated its very quiet. That chavvy mofo can be heard from a mile away if he accelerates ;-)

Aaaaah, I was talking about the A3, as that was the question asked.

However, you have a MUCH bigger back box on the S3 so they can fit a lot more silencer materials in there, so probably is quieter...

Aky said:
Its different on the S3 to A3 must be something to do with the size of the back box - Sitrillis has a (resonated) vid on You Tube. Stewart has non res on his S3 and confirmed its not boomy at all. See for yourself. Ill take the risk!

That is loud for a resonated system guys, no way thats quieter than OEM

think im going towards a blueflame after this. thanks guys

I have both versions of the miltek ie a3 and s3. Although the a3 exhaust i have is on a golf.
Different is chalk and cheese. On the golf, 18t, turbo back, its boomy at cruising speeds, so much so miltek themselves ahve replaced it twice in 4 years! Its better, (they modded the rear box due to the numerous complaints) but its still annoying on cruise.
The S3 on the other hand was seriously quiet in the same situations with the resonated centre box, (golf has resonated box too). So much so, I actually had the none resonated centre pipe relaced with a straight thrrough. Again, on cruise its quiet, not at all intrusive, but has a lovely rasp when you open it up!

It clearly is to do with the shape and size of the rear box. But on the quattro models, (TTs too) they work very nicely.

I hear the jetex is very nice on the golf, a better option than the miltek by most accounts.
