Sat nav retro - fit into S3?

I want to put a audi sat nav unit into my S3, 2001 face lift model. I currently have the concert head unit. I realise i would have to loose the storage conpartment, but my main concern is with the climate control unit. As the dash tapers down, im sure the the climate unit surround needs to be of the correct shape to match the sat nav unit? Did the s3 with sat nav as standard have a diffrent shape surround?

I've been wondering about this myself, as I'm thinking about fitting one too...

It's not easy, but I trimmed one down by hand to fit the new gap. As long as you have a new cage for the NAV system it is fairly easy.
