IMO, drive-by-wire throttle's are adaptive, they sense your driving style and adjusts the sensitivity accordingly to how you drive, but this can take anything upto a mile or 2 before you get lightening throttle response for a hard drive. This device, I think, changes the signal to make the car think you are driving in sports mode all the time, so gives you a more rapid throttle response.
