Headlight Ignitor Pack?
Im currently having a headlight issue.
I have the xenons fitted and the driver side one is intermittent at best.
Ive been told its the ignitor pack and obviously its around 500 to get it sorted.
My question is two-fold.... Is it something that I could tackle myself without risking any undue problems? and secondly has anyone else had the same problem?
Im happy (ish) for audi to do the task and realise I may just have to bite the bullet and take the hit for costs, im just gutted because im also due a 74k service !!
Any ideas appreciated

What car do you have? Are the xenons factory fitted?
If the light is intermittent, it's usually the bulb which is the problem not the ballast. If the ballast fails the light will not work at all, as the ballast ignites the gas. You can buy a replacement ballast/bulb on eBay for £25 and they are a doddle to fit.
My BM is fixed!
I concur with this, my o/s headlight kept going on and off, Audi said it was the igniter, I disagreed. they changed it, it made no difference. It was the bulb that was at fault, they replaced that, all working perfect.
Thanks for the info so far guys,
I have a s3! and they are factory fitted Hellas!
I have checked the bulb (or burner if you want to get geeky with it...)
with the opposite side ballast and the problem stays on driver side.
I have also been fortunate enough for a diagnostic to throw up same conclusion hence my problem.
Im wondering if I can get another unit and fit it even if its from an A4 or similar?
I had this problem with my S3, it ended up being both the ignitor and the bulb. it had burned out pretty badly melting both the bulb housing and ignitor lead, so all had to be placed with a new headlight. the problem I found was that it's quite hard if not impossible to remove the ignitor unit, as the headlamp looks assembled around it. there's a single S3 headlamp on ebay at the moment, going for not much.....
Cheers for the help mate Ill have a look
