Newbie - Sunroof problems

Hi - Newbie on the forum.

Had my 2001 S3 for a few months now, after upgrading from the 1.8T. No complaints with car apart from the fact that the sunroof stopped working properly recently. it does open and close, but i have to fiddle about with the switch a bit to get it to do what i want - its a bit like its got a mind of its own.

Thought maybe it was the switch so had it looked at. Dundee Audi have told me that its a faulty switch AND motor and have quoted me £400 to replace both (better than perth audi who quoted £750)

Anyway - i'm not sure about replacing the motor as it still opens and closes..

Has anyone had similar problems - would be grateful for any advice.

I used to have problems with my audi A4 sunroof, it was circular dial that controlled the sunroof, if you pushed it one way it would tilt and the other way it would slide. It had a mind of it's own though. Sometimes I'd come out and the thing would be half open. My mechanic took the swithc out and cleaned the contact and it improved dramaitcally. Not sure if the S3 swithc is similar to this but I'd see if you can clean the contacts and make sure the dial is making a proper contact.

agreed, the switch is a common problem across the range. you can strip it out, open it up and clean it. as above, the contacts inside become dirty.
