how are the "city" lights removed?

i want to change my pre face lift "city" light bulbs.. the wedge style running lite bulbs in the headlight housing.

they seem like they should just pull out of the housing, but i cant risk breaking something on it since ill have a heck of a time finding a replacement.

it sounds rough, but the only way ive ever heard of people getting them out is to just pull on the wires.

sounds bad, but ive had mine out a load of times and the wires are still fine.
