That was so hard to understand. If your British.... at least type a proper sentence. This isn't a mobile phone forum.

    Well i understood it!

Out of the box I wouls say the r32 if you dont mind the fuel bill may be better, slightly better (still not brill though!) handling and a grunty v6 makes easy off the line progress.
But with a quick remap, the s3 would be lots quicker and more torquey, spend a bit on the suspension and it would be bter than the r32 because of the lower engine weight.
interior is horses for courses, the koenig seats look funky but dont suit all drivers for comfort.

price would be another factor, you'll be able to pick up an S3 for a lot less than the r32

Spec wise there very similar, climate, xenons, leather, heated seats (optional) performance wise there almost identicle too. id say the S3 has more potential (remap) although you could go silly and supercharger the r32

At the end of the day its your choice, id go test drive both i see which one you prefer

    I could read it too.

Although I notice the original post was edited 26 minutes ago and jcs386 was 34 minutes ago so maybe it is now reading ok.

I would say the S3 would be a better all round option.
I simply couldn't like with the fuel bill a R32 would leave me. Although I do around 30k miles a year. If you do low mileage then this will not be a problem.

The S3 is also MUCH easier to tune and, as the original post talks about speed being an important factor then, I think tuneability is definitely something to consider here.

But ultimately, the only way to know which car is best for you is to take a test drive in both

out of the box there pretty well match id say, the R32 may perform better at speed as theres no replacement for displacement. Looks wise i prefer the S3. The braking on the R32 is probably better than the S3 also. Althouh if you were to buy an S3 for say 10k with the 2k you'd have left from not buying the R32 you could buy some mods for the S3 that would make quicker and better handling than the R32.

If keeping standard R32 all the way, if you plan to mod it, S3 any day over the R32, S3 is also more discreet than R32, each to their own though.

Are you interested in modding or just want to keep standard? If keeping standard go for R32 but if you want approx 260bhp then go for the S3.

You'll get a good example of an S3 for that money and they are rarer than the R32.

Really the S3 needs new suspension and ARB's and remaped could do with better brakes. If you can get these on the car you'll save a fortune.

Really depends on what you want out of the car.

Remember going out in an EIP Turbo R32... phenominal car, but for the amount of money that went into making it that quick, really not worth it

    I've currently got an S3, having just sold a mk4 R32.

I wish I could turn back the clock, the R32 was an allround much better car. The S3 needs tuning to be quicker than the 32, and the power displacement when you come on boost isn't as good as the progressive pover of the V6.

Interior wise, the konig seats are absolute PORN. in my opinion the comifiest I've ever been in.

My missus has had a CTR/Mx5/Merc and I've had a 306 cabby/S3/R32/clio sp.....and when she got in the golf the first time, she said it was the best car she'd ever driven, and absolutely loved it.

would you say the s3 is more of a mans car i see a lot of 19yr old girls/boys with mk4 golfs in my area

I sold my R32 as I was moving onto the property ladder, and the S3 was much cheaper. The R32 felt much more 'chunky' that's the best way I can describe it.

TBH I don't really think you can compare the R32 and the S3.... as the power distribution of the two is so different. The R32 should be compared to say the 330ci BMW or M3.

Turbo vs V6 isn't something you can class on the same scale.

I've got the 210bhp S3, but I've driven the 225 and there is not a lot in it at all really. Braking wise they are both excellent, handling wise the S3 is more twitchy than the golf, but only because the power is concentrated when you hit b00st on the audi.

Mk4 golfs are the new young lads car.... I agree. But how many R32's do you see with young lads driving them? Not that many. They cost more, they cost more to insure, and they cost more to run. But in my opinion it's worth it. If I could afford an R32 and a house I would. As it happens I can't even afford an S3 and a house, so I'm selling that too, and I'm gonna buy a diesel. lol.

Good luck with what ever you choose to buy though.

MPG on the R32 is low 20's, on the S3 is mid to high 20's.

I'm 26 with 8 years no claims and a clean liscense.

    To insure an R32.... £875
    To insure a S3..... £650

    Both with £250xs

Think they are both group 19.

Dude! 15k is perfect money for a 3 years old A3 3.2 Quattro!

It's basically the NEW R32 (new chassis, same as new golf), it has a better badge than the VW and if you get an S-line spec one, it'll come with 18"s.

You might also get one with satnav if you're lucky...

Insurance group 18 for the A3, not sure about the golf...

So the s3 and th r32 both consume the same amount of petrol more or less, i guess the extra 1.4 liters on the r32 balances out with the turbo on the s3. So it definatly costs more to insure the r32 what are we looking here hmmm £200 difference thats not to bad considering r32 is a whole lot more car.

    Cheers for that Mike

I tracked my R32 at donnington park.... and got 12 MPG out of it, and I was going flat out. They aren't as bad as you think.

I averaged about 22 to the gallon, over all, got about 17's around town and 28's on the motorway.

thats true they are both lovely cars...i only wanted to sepd about 10k on an s3 but all the ones for around 10k have been raped! Now i'm thinking to my self rather than spending 12-13k on a decent s3 i might as well fork the money out on a r32 you get more bang for your buck most porbably get sat nav etc etc which is rare on a s3
