S3 225 or R32 240bhp ??????????

ta dudes, ill give it a blast. does a tracker or awt make a large impact on lowering premium? or is it just a couple of hundred?

AFAIK, a tracker doesn't make much difference to insurance premiums, only some insurance company's require one fitted to you car before they will cover it!

I've had the R32 for over a year now and it's a really great car. Over here in Hong Kong, things are very different so it's difficult to do a fair comparison.
To give an idea: I paid HK$400k for the new R32 and it was fully equipped with Recaros and all, a very good deal. At the same time, A3 3.2 was selling at HK$550k. They are basically the same sort of cars, (A3 didn't have the Recaros) so the brand's name means a great deal of money!
The fuel bill for the R32 is not really a problem. I drive perhaps 50/50 town/motorway and it's about 12/13 litres per 100 km. Please do the sum for the switch to gal/miles, I'm not good at it.
My wife drives the A4 2.0T Avant and it's been chipped with APR Stage 1 (This is quite hot here now). In theory, the two cars are about the same: 240 - 250 bhp. Apart from the chip, both are stock.
Although the power of both cars are almost identical, the R32 is a lot more enjoyable to drive. This is mainly due to its suspension, AWD, and shorter wheelbase, and the chassis' rigidity.
I've not driven the 3.2 A3, nor the Mk IV Golf, nor the S3, I just want to share my experience with the two I have.
By the way, the new S3 with the 2.0T has arrived here and is selling for approx HK$600k.

Thats well expensive. I live in Bradford so only a stones throw away from Huddersfield. I pay £600 fully protected with Greenlight. I'm 26 with 4yrs NCB

I pay £500.05p fully comp for my 2002 S3, i'm 27 with 4 years NCB, car standard and garaged, insured with Admiral, girlfriend also on the policy, she's 25

I had a lovely mk4 R32 for 18 months and sold it to buy my even more lovely pre-facelift S3. I got 14k for the golf and paid 6.5k for a 48000 mile S3. Is there £7500 worth of diference? No way.
The golf was probably prettier in its blue pearl paint, was more refined with a nicer interior, and of course sounded better with the Milltek fitted. It also felt more stable and planted at speed.
However, i have to say the S3 is much more fun to drive, it has the feel of a much lighter car, easier to hurry round roundabouts and twisty roads even before i sort the suspension. Having just had a Revo remap the S3 is far quicker than the Golf, and way more fun.
But the main reason i changed (apart from the wedge of cash) is that the Audi is much more understated, attracts much less attention, and I dont have to worry so much about it being parked on the street overnight.
Just my opinions, maybe it'll help - maybe not.

6500 for a 48k miler s3 sounds very cheap, no matter how old it is!
Is it all straight and legit!! ? If so a real bargain!!

it has had a bang in the rear nearside corner, but nothing serious, other than that its pretty good. not my first choice colour though (green) but for the money i couldn't refuse it.
the biggest bonus over the golf is that i can get my mountain bike in the back without too much hassle.

Ooooooooooooh, Steve, yours wasn’t the gorgeous green one with RSTT wheels parked at the one way end of somers road on Saturday afternoon was it? Just off Winston Churchill Av? If so, I drove by and thought it looked gorgeous!
