Can you get them for a S3? I've seen www.warrantydirect.co.uk, but was wondering do Audi do them? I'll give em a call in a min but was wondering if anyone else knew or has one?

I was speaking to the service dept. at my local dealers on Friday and asked the same question. The answer was YES, and this includes an identical warranty to the first three years and includes Roadside Assistance.
However, they could not (at the time) give me the most important information - prices! and suggested I called the service manager this week..
I'll give you an update once I've done this (assuming yuou've not already found out!?)

Would be interesting to know what they cover, also whether wear and tear parts are covered too as they are the things most likely to need attention as the car gets older /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Nice one Ben, on warrantydirect they can do a 'Gold' Service for about £250.00 a year, this covers all the normal warranty parts and some others, this was based on a 2002 S3 with 60k miles. They seem pretty good compared to all the others on the net, I'm at the local stealer this friday so will find out more on the old warranty status with Audi.

that sounds like a good deal to me. I was quoted £750 by Audi to extend for a further year (2001 S3). Seemed a bit steep to me.
yeah i was thinking about this warrantydirect thing as well. sounds like a much better option than the Audi one. 750 is far too much in my opinion too!

It's basically just insurane for a cambelt failure.
Nothing else will be covered
Read the small print, there is so much wriggle room, any claim will be wear & tear.
Get a list of what is actually covered, if they can provide one.
Otherwise your car will be off the road with a fault and you'll be tearing your hair out arguing with the warranty company. Life's too short.

Looking at the site they offer a wear and tyre policy and have a comprehensive list of what is covered. It seemed pretty coherent on what is and what isn't covered, I guess you'll never know until you actually claim on the ****** and then you find out the real mccoy. But from my point of view it seemed well worth the peace of mind, also looking thru the press cuttings they seem to be one of the customer comes first type companies.
The only catch I could see was that you can have to take it to one of their approved garages, or if you take it elsewhere you may have to extra. Also they will refund 100% of labour, but depending on the cars age only a % of parts costs, i.e for mine they are able to cover 90% of the cost and a max claim is £5000.00

I just don't see how they can do it at that price. So basically if you make one claim a year, they are going to be out of pocket, as pretty much any job on an Audi is going to be £250.
It's not like insurance where they are banking on only a small per centage of people claiming, pretty much everyone will make a claim in a year on a 4+ year old car.
As you say the proof is in the pudding.

3rd Party Warranties are NOT worth the paper theyre written on.
I kid you not. About 6yrs ago I bought a 911 complete with a 3rd party warranty from a very reputable warranty company. 3mths later, whilst driving, I noticed the engine all of a sudden feel much "weaker" (for want of a better word). Next morning I put it into the dealer I bought it from... 2 days later I was told that I needed a complete top end rebuild. I had an engineers report carried out, and sent this off to the warranty company.
One week later I received a reply from the warranty company saying that they would only pay out for a new dizzy belt and dizzy cap as they believed I exacerbated the problem by driving the car whilst it was in a "weakened" state.... (ie. to the dealers the morning after i first noticed the problem -- completely unaware as to what the problem was)
to cut a long and arduous story short -- I was left with a bill of nearly £4,000. Nice intro to 911 ownership, but more importantly VERY valuable lesson learnt about 3rd party warranties.
I GUARANTEE YOU that a 3rd party warranty company WILL do EVERYTHING in their power to wriggle out of a claim.
You may think that a manufacturer warranty is too costly, but trust me, its peanuts in comparison.

Well, all I am saying is that in my experience a manufacturer warranty is 100% safer than a 3rd party warranty.
If you imagine that a 3rd party warranty will provide you with the same level of support that a manufacturer warranty (or extended warranty) would, then I think you will be in for a nasty shock, should it come to you making a claim or needing to get work done.

This is based on a 2002 S3 with 60K on the clock. Like the dudes said it may be costly (extra £250.00) but I guess it will give me better peace of mind.

This is something i'm gonna have to think about next January when my warranty is up, think you just have to weigh up if you think your gonna make more then £500 worth of warranty claims. But on the same note, the older a car gets, the more likely it is for things to wrong, I think £505 is a pretty good price for a years extended warranty from Audi. I'd pay it.

You also need to factor in the inflated cost of Audi servicing, as opposed to going to an independent specialist.
Two services a year (£20k miles) is going to cost at least £250 more than the equivalent from a good specialist.
If you do a smaller mileage then it maybe more worthwhile, but then less will go wrong (in theory).
It is really piece of mind, I guess.
All I can say is that given the level of cover I received on the standard warranty I wouldn't touch any warranty with a barge pole. As a result I have saved over £1,000 over the last 2 years by using a specialist and not paying for a warranty.
Having said that my mate was quoted £750 to extent his Audi warranty on his A3TS Quattro, so £505 is a good deal.

Im extending my warranty in a couple of days with HR Owen Audi where I got my 2001 S3 from. Price £475 incl. VAT, includes Audi Assistance. Ive had a few probs with my car over the last 3 months, saved £000s with the warranty, definitely extending
Im looking for an Audi S3 at the moment, but buying privately means no warranty. This led to me to search for 3rd party warrantys and so forth, the companies i found were AA, RAC and Warrantydirect as mentioned above.
Andymac - I strongly agree and see his point in this, how are these 3rd party warranty companies supposed to make any money. S3's are bound to get thrashed and will obviously fail on something at least once if not more per year, this will be costly so whats in it for these warranty companies?
Another thing im wondering about is, if i was to buy an Audi S3 privatelywith no warranty, can i then get warranty from Audi or is this only available if you extend the warranty that the car already had? I assume the car would have to have Full Audi Service History aswell?
Anyone shed any light on this?

you can extend it after its expired, just costs you more... i think it was about £100 extra for years 3-4.

The warranty that 'Most' Audi dealers sell is packaged as an Audi Approved warranty handled by a third party company called Mondial. Please be aware that this is not the same as the standard 'Audi' warranty that you get with a UK car that is up to 3 years old (or two years old for uk spec imports as indicated previously).
There are differences between the two, and for major defects, Mondial ask Audi to contribute towards the cost anyway.
