    Rollbars fitted - but something doesnt feel right

    Hi guys.


    Not sure if this is normal.....

    I fitted the Neuspeed rollbars (22/19) to my S3 recently, but now the car feels a bit twitchy at the rear. Even the traction control tends to kick in if I corner at around 120km/h on a long bend on the highway.

    This happens when I tap off the accelerator though, which will cause the back end to get light, but it never did this with the stock roll bars.

    Is this normal or should I get it checked out. I had Audi fit the bars for me.
    I have the rollbars and Koni FSD shocks fitted. No changes to the springs.

    Funnily enough I have exactly the same setup. I don't feel this and it doesn't feel twitchy. It takes some time to get used to it. I think it needs some upgraded spring. -20mm MTM springs me thinks. Maybe your haldex isn't working properly. I've been round some bends at silly speeds on country roads. The car feels planted!

    May be a set of tie bars is needed for the added correction at the rear. This may help APS - remap

    Yeah but the FSD's don't lower the car so tie bars aren't required.

    If you keep your foot on the gas it sticks like crazy, but if you're just cruising along, then it gets a bit twitchy.

    It's probably just me needing to learn how to drive properly! hehe!

    What do you think to the setup? apart from it being about 10mm higher?

    I'm sorry to say mate but it's your FSD's there ****. A couple of my mates have had FSD's in there cars and all have taken them out because they a dangerous at high speed. One guy i know had them in his new Gti it was so scetchy at high speed, in the end awesome gave him the money back for them. You should try the same. Them go and buy some bilstein b8's they rock!

    Ive read nothing but rave reviews on the fsd`s only down side was they seem to raise the car 10mm

    I love mine. They aren't too hard unlike coilovers and to some extent the Koni SSK kit. Only thing I wish I had done was buy some MTM -20mm springs rather that learning the hard way.

    I don't understand why anyone would want to design a set of dampers/shocks that would raise the ride height by 10mm?!

    its just what ive read from loads of reviews that fsd`s fitted with -25mm springs only lowers the car 15mm even after settling time. Someone suggested the spring seats are set slightly high ???? Suits me though as i only want to lower a max of 25 mm.

    Guess if you happy with them then keep em. its my understanding as well that they raise the car 10mm ie with 35mm drop spring you only get 25mm.
    My mate hated them. took it for a drive it was well scetchy at 130 mph plus round bends on the motorway, the back end was unstable and whaled around. Dodgy if you ask me! anyway like i said he got his money back and brough billies.

    Out of curiosity, did Audi do a 4 wheel alignment after they fitted the bars?

    Dont think it's the FSDs. I had them on before putting on the rollbars and it was great at any speed.

    The car just feels twitchy after fitting the rollbars.
    4 wheel alignment was done. Maybe I should go check it out again.

    Do you guys think fitting a set of H&Rs will make a difference? Only thing is, how low can you go without having to fit tie bars?

    And yes, the car does seem to be a bit higher with the FSDs!

    I'm going to get some MTM springs. They cost a lot but lower the car by 20mm or you can get some to lower by 30mm but I think you will need tie bars with these. My advice would be not to lift off the power in a corner as the back end wilk tend to snap.

    Koni FSD's and Eibach Sport Springs fitted to my car (although not an S3), and it feels planted as anything on long fast sweeping bends, feels very controlled.

    Is that rear bar you've had fitted thicker than the stock bar? That would lead to a 'lighter' feeling back end wouldn't it?

    mine had this feeling when i only had the rear R32 arb fitted. When i fitted the front it went away

    Ive fitted the R32 front and rear now , ive forgotten the R32 sizes now I know the front is slightly thicker than it should be but it works ok for me.

    I have r32 front bar and the large neuspeed rear, (22mil I think), so its 25/22 I think. With none adjustable billies, its on rails up to anything approaching criminal speeds, but I noticed on the bahn in Germany, that at very high speed, (like 130 to 160mph) I had this strange "light" feeling at the rear, sort of oversteery, in fact exactly that, it needed constant steering correction to get round high speed curves.

    I think it is probably the rear bar being a bit large for the non adjustable damping. Or maybe just the rear lifting at high speed.
    Anyway, I thought it would show itself on a trackday so went to CC earlirer this year to have a play and reckoned the s3 would be a handful.........weirdly enough, it was not, infact it was very predicatble, very flat, great on the brakes from high speed, (trail braking too, suggesting the back was not "light") and just like it was on rails.
    But on the road the sensation was back.........weird I thought.
    After a few weeks I then noticed the front tyres on mine had worn really bad on the inside edges, so I had the allignment checked, even though it had "been done" after the suspension fit. Front was toeing out by over half a degree, rear camber was increased a little.

    The net result, with new tyres is much improved on the road. i think the road camber was playing havoc with the front end, but this was felt as if the back of the car was misbehaving. On track, with no camber, the sensation was not there.

    So I would have your allignment done and ask for the toe on the fornt to be set neutral, (a bit more flightly for fast road than a toeing in set up). But you may find like mine, its toeing out a lot!!

    I`m getting some brembos next week, but the ARBs will be next... Which ones should i go for??? I want both front and rear.. As i feel the car rolls to much.. I have Bilsteins and springs just want the ARBs to finish it off...

    Any advise welcome

    Keep it sensible and go for something like the 21/19mm Neuspeed ARBs. You won't have any of the high-speed issues metioned above with them.

    But Nershen has 21/19mm Neuspeed ARBs and is having issues with them. Chris what set up have you got on your S3?

    I was referring to Simch's high speed issues. Nershen's issues are something else (bushes, aligment or the FSDs).

    I have a 22mm Eibach front and a 19mm Neuspeed rear. Rock solid in any corner at any speed (only time it hasn't been was a bumpy right-hander at 150mph+ following Ess_Three. That was a little scary).
